Hi, just a brief update. It seems the hold on L1 editing is going to take a bit longer than hoped and may extend for a few more weeks.

However, one good note, it seems that while L1's can not edit road segments, they can still edit places and so the addition of places and the amendments to them can still go on during this time.

As mentioned above, if you find anything needing urgent correction during this time, please post it in the Editors Requests.

EDIT - Sorry but it seems the ability to edit places is only working for those editors who have already added sufficient places so they do not need approval. For the new starters, this does not seem to be working.
 
 
 

Another update, although sadly no good news yet.

The work on this issue is still ongoing and has proved to be more difficult than first thought. As I think has been mentioned elsewhere, this is a very high priority and several other project are on hold until this has been resolved. Despite this, it is looking likely that this will still be another few weeks away.

It is being taken very seriously by the HQ team, as while this goes on we are losing possible new good editors all around the world who are getting frustrated and leaving or not even joining if they have not been able to make a single edit.

While, unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done to help any new editor who has not manged to make a single edit, there is a possibility of some help for any L1 editor who did some edits before this shutdown. If you are in that category and keen to get going again, please contact me via the Chat and I will review what you have done to date and see if there is a way to get you editing again.
 

While there is still no good news on this, I thought I better update this post just so all our L1 and prospective new editors don't feel forgotten.

Hi all. There has just been an update on this. The fix is nearly completed and there are just a few more issues to resolve before it can be released for Beta testing. As soon as it goes into the Beta version testing can start and all being well, it should come through to the production version soon after.
Thanks to all of you potential new editors for patiently waiting and we hope to welcome you to the world of Waze editing in the near future.

Another brief update. The fix for this issue is now almost complete and we are expecting it being released for beta testing in the next couple of weeks. If all goes well with the testing then I hope the live version will be released early in the new year.

While this has taken much longer than anyone would want, all we can do is look forward to the the problem being resolved and then welcome the flood of new editors who have all been waiting patiently to join us.

Again, if you are an existing UK L1 editor who has previously done some editing and want to get back into it, please send me a chat message and I will see if it is possible for you to get going again, rather than having to wait for this to be resolved.
 

Hi everyone, me again.

The fix for L1 editing has now gone out into the beta version for testing. All being well, it will be moved through to the production WME just after the holidays. Please continue to be patient and I look forward to the flood of new editors who join us in the new year.

Time for another update.

While it is not all good news, there have been big steps in the right direction.

The fix was released in the beta version of the WME and did what it was designed to do. Unfortunately it did not fully do what was needed and several suggestions were made to improve it. These are now being added by the dev team and a new beta version should be out soon.

I am hopeful this will finally come through to the production version of the WME towards the end of January.

Thanks again to all you prospective new editors for waiting. Please be patient, it will all be worthwhile in the end. In a few years time, you will look back and smile at the slight delay to you gaining access to the obsession that has taken over your life and all of your spare time.
 

Finally, the good news we have all been waiting for. As of today the map has been unlocked for L1 editors. There are some new rules that will take us all a bit of time to get familiar with, but as I understand it, if you have been registered as an editor for a while you should now be able to edit the map.

- Map editing for L1 is now available with the following restrictions:

a) L1 will have limited editing capabilities that will grow over time, based on their time as an editor, the number of edits they do and the number of drives they make.

b) If they are unable to edit: for example this could be due to restrictions for the initial joining period, or if they try and make too many changes too quickly, L1 editors will see an alert message that will prompt them to request an edit via the forum.

So, all you budding new editors, your time has come. Have a go at editing and if you have any problems, please post on the forum or message your local Champ who will help you out.
