They are railroad crossings.

CarPlay Dashboard will come in due time. Magic Earth navigation is the only app that has Dashboard added so far

That has been tested and there isn’t a problem with the Waze app. It’s likely an issue between a combination of various settings of your car system, headlight switch position, phone settings, CarPlay setting and Waze settings. All those need to be looked at. The car system tells the CarPlay api what to do in terms of day and night modes and Waze reads that from CarPlay.
If changing settings and adjusting Waze back and forth to auto display mode, you need to disconnect and reconnect from CarPlay for settings to stick.
It works fine on my phones and car - headlight switch in auto position with car system in auto and Waze in auto and CarPlay in dark always.
If I set my car system to always night mode, Waze will likewise be always in night display.

Yes, Waze shows night map colours incorrectly in Ford sync cars. It’s been a long standing bug. Same with the bug of changing audio source when Waze opens in CP.

Looks like it was a Setting in carplay, I had forced darkmode and that was overriding Waze’s setting.

Thanks!
It shouldn’t. Dark always or automatic CarPlay setting should not affect the Waze map day colours showing during the day.
All other nav apps show the correct colours during the day. And Waze in many cars, like VW, does correctly show day colours regardless of the CarPlay setting. It’s a bug they hopefully can fix in compatibility with Ford cars with Sync 3. I assume you have a Ford too.

Apple Carplay on BMW G31. I am using Waze with Apple Carlay on a BMW G31. Waze always seems to operate in Night Mode on the BMW screen. Is there anyway that I can get Waze to operate in automatic mode, where it uses its general settings to determine what display mode you are operating in?
My iPhone MODE and TYPE are set to automatic. The BMW is set to automatic lights on and only operate the headlights when the car determines the light is below a set value to activate the headlights.

I noticed v4.43.5.0 has some issue on the re-routing.
Waze refuses to re-calculate the new routes if driver not following the waze route. There's no prompt, no sound. The map is moving, the GPS is working. It will only back to normal when driver re-join the waze route again.
This issue was reported I believe one year ago on a certain version. Seems like the issue comes back again.

Is it possible to add a button in carplay screen to toggle avoid toll or not?
It's quite inconvenient to operate iPhone when connected to carplay to change the route option.

In Settings > Navigation > and under Preferences, you can toggle whether or not your routes avoid toll roads or not.
Thanks, I know how to toggle avoid toll or not in the iPhone waze app settings.
My request is it possible to add a Siri shortcut or button in Carplay UI to enable/disable avoid toll roads. So that I don't need to operate on iPhone which is quite dangerous during driving.

Because I have need to use toll road on certain routes not a global setting to avoid toll. That's why I need to toggle the avoid toll switch quite often.

If waze can define a segmentation of toll road as exception that would be great.
