By my reconing, raymond ms IS about 20 miles north east of the balloon location.
I don't see why they would want to go west. Perhaps their GPS located them in the wrong spot by 23 miles?
Description: turns before I do

hmmmmm?
A birdwatching friend once told me to 'leave all turns un-stoned'.

sHe may have parked and gone into the building with WAZE running.
The inherent inaccuracy of the GPS could then, over a period of time, have misplaced the actual location by a variable distance and direction, causing the 'path' shown to be traced out.

I have noticed that any GPS will, over a period of time, show 'small' movements in various directions and variations in altitude as it picks up and uses the data from different satellites as they come into range and go out of range and the signals experience various doppler shifts due to the satellite motion and due to variations in ionospheric and other atmospheric conditions.

Suggestion: the client software should send a screen snapshot along with reports such as this one:

That way, we might be able to figure out what the drivers are TRYING to report. :)

I would normally classify problems such as this a "a loose nut on the keyboard".
However, I think that some tweaks to the client interface could eliminate a lot of these problems.
(it would get rid of some of the fun, however.)

I'll bet you good money that this person was sitting at home and panning the map thinking that they can report things they are looking at.

That said, screenshots could be nice help in some situations.
Exactly my point. If WAZE included a snapshot of the screen that the user was looking at when they started to submit the report, we would not have to guess. It should be a rather small tweak to the client software. Most of the 'stuff' needed is already in place because users can submit snapshots taken with their camera now.

It would take up a bit of bandwidth to send and would require server storage space and a change in the editor to let view the snapshot when we open the user's report.

It would vastly improve the 'communications of data' that the problem report is intended to convey.
I think the benefits would far outweigh the costs.

Trying to think of unintended consequences. Have not found any yet.

How would the screen shot taken as someone is attempting to report a problem be a privacy concern?

It would be taken with the consent of the user and the user would approve it. It would NOT be 'forced' on the user.

I can see how a screen shot taken at some other times could be of concern but under this specific set of circumstance, I don't see a problem.

I do appreciate your raising the issue so that it could be clarified.

Also when dataroaming it will get a bit expensive ;)
Then you don't need to send reports of map problems while you sit in your living room, looking at the map in WAZE. :)

I think that these reports are being sent by people trying to be helpful.
Due to current system limitations, the reports are 'worse than useless'.

This idea would solve THAT problem (and eliminates many 'Jolly drivers' reports.)
