The Amazon vendor gave us credit for the amount promised.
I am sure some folks misrepresent the condition of their phones to their advantage.
We did not, but the phones we sent were in near pristine condition.
That's good news. Congrats!

Although you still can get what AT&T is advertising as 4G, HSPA+ when on a phone call with AT&T.

In any case, compared to iPhone 4 - the iPhone 5 is impressive in every regard :)

Kinda confusing why Apple wouldn't make the iPhone SVDO compatible, Verizon's network is capable of it, even with just 3g coverage I can still make a call and use data on my 4G Galaxy S3 on Verizon.

Verizon has by far has the largest LTE network (not to be confused with AT&T's statement that they have the largest 4g network, what they're referring to is HSPA+ (not nearly as fast as LTE)).

Be sure to check which carrier covers you.

BUT, did you know that AT&T's iPhone 5 won't do simultaneous voice+data either when you're in AT&T's LTE markets? Granted, they only have a dozen or so now, but when they finally build out their network you will LOSE SVD in their LTE markets. Apple only put 1 radio in ALL the carriers' phones. Old GSM networks did SVD as part of the network, but add in LTE and AT&T is in the same boat as the other carriers. Also, there doesn't appear to be any way to prevent your AT&T iPhone from accessing the LTE network if it exists.

Oh, now this is starting to suck even more. Is this really true? Can you cite some articles?
According to http://appleinsider.com/articles/12/09/ ... n_networks, your statement is not true.
Have to admit that my info was outdated. Old information I had was that AT&T would not drop their phone back to their HSPA network in LTE markets, even to place a voice call. Looks like they changed their mind on that.

I retract my statement. SORRY for the scare!

However, when VoLTE launches the CDMA carriers will catch up again...but admittedly that'll be a couple of years.

Here is a good article explaining why the iPhone 5 will not due simultaneous voice and data on Verizon or Sprint.

for clarification, the iphone 5 hardware simply won't allow it, it's that new architecture for LTE, where there is only 1 radio, instead of LTE having it's own radio
One of the articles I read suggests that as LTE matures (not sure what that means, exactly) then providers like Verizon will be able to have SVD. I don't totally understand why/how GSM can do this and LTE cannot. You'd think the next big thing would at least have what seems an important feature of older technology...
So heres the reason:
With CDMA(verizons non-LTE tech for voice/data) you can only do one at a time, be it voice or data.
With UMTS(Att's non-LTE voice/data tech) you can.

With the iPhone 5 on verizon it switches the antennas to CDMA to make calls, no data.
With the iPhone 5 on ATT it switches the antennas to UMTS and can do both, but you won't get LTE speeds while on a call(boo hoo!).

Other verizon LTE phones have an extra transmit antenna so it can do LTE and CDMA at the same time, iPhone didn't have the space for the extra antenna and more importantly the extra chip to regulate it.

LTE is packet only, so it will only do voice through VOIP, most likely VoLTE, which isn't supported by the iPhone 5 either, and only supported by MetroPCS in the states.

Hey Alan,

FWIW AT&T is giving me $241 a piece for a pair of iPhone 4's.
Definitely a better deal upgrading than I have ever had in the past.

That said, I am already going through withdrawal. I activated an old LG flip phone to use until my iPhone 5 gets here.....

To anyone looking to get the above mentioned price for an iPhone 4.
Either the AT&T rep misquoted or the buy back price changed.
They offered my wife $150 today which she declined.
Amazon is paying us almost as much as the above quote. (We locked in a price Tuesday).
