Use Voice Command from motorcycle

Post by BigIron45
I use Waze on a Galaxy S III. I have a handlebar mount, which works fine. I have a Bluetooth headset in my helmet, which syncs up with the phone, no problem. I can hear Waze notices fine. I can't actively participate however. Gotta keep hands on the handlebars, especially in busy traffic. From what I see, to use Voice Command I have to tap the screen with three fingers. That doesn't work so well as I wear gloves! I was hoping that the Voice Command could be activated and simply waiting, or called upon with a specific word or something. Am I missing something, or is this a "wish I had this" feature?

I'm not sure about all devices functionality, but on iPhone, there is the proximity sensor so I wave my hand over the screen for a just a short moment to active the voice commands.

When you hear the prompt in your BT earpiece, you shouldn't have to push a button. Just talk. It should already be listening.

That is half the answer! I shouldn't try to change settings after a full day's work. You are correct, the default option does work as you described. I turned that on, and sure enough, I wave my hand in front of the camera and Waze voice prompt speaks up! I turn on my headset, and I hear the prompt loud and clear. The problem now is that Waze doesn't hear me through the headset! If I push the button, that activates the phone's voice command system, which I have yet to set up. Any Android users out there to help out?

For some reason waze does not hear/recognize my commands via BT-headset in my helmet.
I use Scala G4, and you guys? Can it be a problem of headset?

As for handsfree mode - it would be good to override "call last phone number" event to activate voice command and have new voice command to call that number if you really want it.

I found this thread after a google search of use of waze on a motorcycle.

Its really quite simple, Waze needs to use "wake up words" like Vlingo does, motorcyclists can and should be able to contribute to waze but the simple rule is eyes on the road hands on the handle bars...this silly tap the screen or gesture control has got to go.
