I decided to clean up some URs in Birmingham, AL tonight. This might have been a mistake. Following are some of the better URs.

"Lanes Merge"

"Rough Road"

"No traffic even though it says there is"

Missing bridge/overpass-no comment (bridges are all there where they marked)

"This is still Montrose Rd"- Right next to a Missing Road "Montrose Rd" report.

"Waze needs to add more quick options for faster hazard issues. also too hard to map road closures. call me if you need feedback"-Let me just look under Anonymous in the Birmingham Phone book

That's hilarious!

gfolk wrote:Missing road (user reported)

Description: road closed
Reported on: December 27

Received 2 of these, this one made it all the way to the closure.

This road closes anytime we have a significant snowfall, like this last week (not that I truly expect out of towners to know that). This last storm created 2 avalanches with in ski areas that killed two people (a very uncommon phenomenon), so this road may not open for another week or it may open tomorrow. That's not my beef.

What are people expecting from their GPS??? If they watched or listened to any road report, they would know Emerald Bay was closed. They passed at least 2 roadside signs stating the road was closed, they had to pass at least one CALTRANS display (CMS) describing the closure and pointing them to a CALTRANS radio station that describes it in audio for them.

I can and have created breaks in the passes that won't open until spring so Waze won't route someone through there. I can't keep up with and Waze doesn't update often enough for the short term closures.

So do they really expect Waze to be so real time that it knows the road conditions better that CALTRANS? Do they drive without looking out the window? Now I know how AlanoftheBerg feels when editors don't read the Wiki.

Thanks for letting me vent, I feel better.

Don't forget not everybody knows Waze's systems as well as we do. This person probably didn't really want to report a map problem but rather a hazard of some kind to help others.

Guys, please think. They will never make screenshots and store those. That's just incredibly conflicting with privacy. Please!

Because you never know what information is overlaid over the Waze UI or shown outside of the app on screen. Even if it would only be done with the reporters active consent, it would still probably lead to all kinds of berserk necessary permissions, causing people to not install it in the first place.

bgodette wrote:It need not take a screenshot the way apparently everyone is thinking. The app has its own internal window object it displays to and already (obviously) has access to. Making a copy of that and saving as a .png within the app is entirely independent of whatever else may be being displayed on your device.

If that is the case, the issues I raised are overcome.
Now, let's wait for them to implement it

A funny one I found today:
Problem: Kerstmis
Reported on: yesterday

Kerstmis means Christman. Yeah I could see how that'd become problematic in July.

My guess: user tried to report "kermis" (fancy fair) as a reason for a closure but the autocorrection got it wrong. And who is Christman? :-)

Funny, making my own typo while making fun of other's! Christmas of course.

Interesting! But I hope you would grab your phone to take a picture, not to fire up Waze ;-)
