And speed limits if you're driving an expensive car. ;)

Well actually, if you live in Texas, replace "expensive car" with pickup truck.

It's a chicken place. A notch up from KFC but not that big of a notch.

Popeye's has a pretty good flavor though, can't say that much for the others.

Gosh.... its NOTHING like Church's and the notch up is huge. :)

The original Poppeys was a plywood building with two order windows to the outside on a shell parking lot. I remember getting chicken there :) I grew up in the upper 9th ward which is not far up-river from Arabi where the original place was located.

Al's light display at Christmas was a constant battle with his neighborhood and the Jefferson Parish sheriff's dept. because of the huge crowds and long lines of cars running through narrow subdivision streets. He also caused havoc when he had a helicopter land in the park over the levee from his house.

I really try to not be snarky when I reply to some people but I am tempted to use your suggestion sometime.

Yes, but this one was in the middle of San Francisco Bay. Maybe he was on a ferry?

To all Texas editors, make sure you don't have any US Banks.

Years ago, back before the big savings and loan crash, all Banks in Texas were "stand alone", that is there could be no branches, so the big multi-state, multi-branch type banks were illegal in Texas.

qwaletee wrote:Not quite. Interstate banking was prohibited. But there was nothing preventing a Texas-based bank form having many in-state branches. Chase's network in Texas came about because of the buyout of Texas Commerce, shortly after the repeal of the rule. Texas Commerce had an extensive branch network for many years, making it an attractive target as soon as the restriction was lifted.

Actually they were not branches. Each bank by law was a standalone bank. Many were "associated" with each other and had the same name, but no branches. They were each separate corporate entities. It was a pain not being able to make a deposit except at "your" bank when there was one with the same name nearby. For awhile even ATMs were "branches" but that went away first. When I first moved to Texas from Louisiana I was really confused by the no branch banks when I had had accounts at big Louisiana banks and could make deposits and such at any one branch not just the one where I opened the account.
