Important Feature Request + Heavy Rant on behalf of NJians
Hi,
Over the last week, I've been noticing an event occur that other big NJ editors and I have previously discussed - landmarks being deleted.
In the Northern NJ Region, where I do a lot of editing, all of my previous landmarks including schools, malls, businesses, shopping centers, religious institutions, rivers, etc have all been deleted. No, my layer is on . I do see some still remaining, but most of it is gone. Especially the ones that took time for me to do and the ones I use personally.
Some editors are telling me that small chain restaurants shouldn't be included, but this is a much bigger problem - everything is being deleted!
The biggest detractor for one of the larger editors of the state, is to have his/her work deleted. Some of the other area managers are saying even their locked landmarks are getting deleted.
I would like to say this is a bug, but I believe this is the work of somebody who 'thinks' he is doing the right thing. Even if the person is correct, he should at least PM the people who created it and discuss it with them!
This is why I request the below feature for those of us on the brink of quitting editing because of this nonsense:
-The editor should email the creator of a segment/landmark whenever it is being deleted by somebody else. The email should also state the username of the person who is doing this.
Of course you can expand on the functionality to not permamently delete anything for the first few days if the creator objects... etc. But the basic feature is pretty easy to implement. This way the creator can PM the deleter and start a dialog. If it turns out the person who is deleting things is non-responsive and abusive, Waze can ban them.
Of course I would love if Waze was able to restore all deletions from this person (if we ever find him/her), but I doubt Waze keeps those records.
Can anyone help in our dilemma? Any recommendations? If you look at the map of our area, you'll see everything was deleted. Even many of my parking lots were deleted as well. My attempt to find the person only lead to someone who was cleaning up the empty nodes this guy left behind.
I'll send this thread to a few of my co-editors who can chime in on the experience we've been seeing in this region...
