Divided Primary Street not Divided

Post by travtufts
I'm trying to edit a road that I drive fairly often, which never routes me correctly when I'm driving to a location on it. It is a divided road with a barrier median in the middle of the four lanes. Because of that you cannot take lefts to addresses on the other side of the median, even though Waze is constantly saying to take a left there.

Here is the street permalink: https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-71.17 ... 3,66149343

Should it be changed to two individual streets, each one-way? Would that fix this problem?

I'm a newbie here, but would definitely like to clean up some map problems that have been frustrating me lately and am happy to help out here.

EDIT:

I checked out the "Best Practices" wiki on split roads http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Best ... n_Practice but I'm still unsure as to the answer.

[*]There is NOT a definable gap between GPS tracks in the two directions at 100m
[*]But U-Turns ARE required to properly make turns that are blocked by a median.

Thoughts?

I'm looking at it.

Harling! What's up with these ramp turn lanes? :) It looks like some of my edits I'd forgotten about after I learned how ramps were to be used...

(Based on looking at aerial view.)

Because that median barrier is pretty solid all through, u-turns are actually impossible, so splitting the road will gain you nothing. There is a break in the median and segments are in place there to allow crossing the road, so it looks totally correct (except the using of the Ramp road type) to me. It should not be split.

If you are going the opposite direction Waze wants you to go, it should use them, yes. Junctions at both ends of this segment are allowing left turns both ways, which will cause Waze to give incorrect turn instructions.

I found some routes where Waze breaks turn restrictions which I cannot yet explain, but this route clearly does obey turn restrictions and makes the drive take a long route to get "across the street."

Guilty as charged, Ossifer. (Actually I'm not sure what I did with them in Dec 2011, but changing them from Ramps to Primary wasn't one of them!)

Lots of turn restrictions messed up here recently. It looks like VFW Parkway is going to be my new Route 9, in terms of locking.

I would say the reason it doesn't know you can't take the left is because the road doesn't realize there is a median. All the routing does is take a GPS point and plot the closest road, this doesn't tell routing that the wazer can't take a left, unless we tell it. I added a parking lot road with proper turn restrictions. https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-71.17 ... s=69529100. If someone wants to verify the restrictions and geometry and my logic...

That makes sense to me, then. Is there any way for the navigation routes to use those ramp roads to reverse direction? That's what they're for on the street, but unless you know they're coming up you're in the wrong lane and can't use them to turn around.

That does seem right, yep. Thanks for your help.

I just can't figure out why the navigation to this point thinks I can just take a left across the median:

Whereas Google knows I cant:
