Looking for advice on U-turns

Post by
Hey all,

I've been glancing through user guides/wikis on managing U-turns and am unable to locate exactly how to handle this issue. Here is an example of what I'm trying to help solve:

https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=7&lat ... 7,67078179

Between these segments, a U-turn is permitted. But there are also permitted U-turns all along 441/SR-7 in both North and South directions. The easiest 'solution' (although I don't bellieve it would be) would be to add a one-way road between these segments from north-to-south.

I don't believe it would be appropriate for Wazers to see a bunch of small road segments along their route (u-turn permitted areas), but I don't know how to help solve this issue.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Collapse it all into a single junction, ie. bowtie. It may not be the prettiest, but 1) it is totally functional = first rule of Waze mapping, and 2) is the simplest solution = second rule of Waze mapping.

Check the Style Guide section in the in the wiki editor page.

It's pretty simple:
- Delete the four segments which comprise the "box" intersection.
- Drag all eight segments/junctions together into a single junction.
- Set turn restrictions on the four inbound segments

I lied. It doesn't look like a bowtie is mentioned in the wiki.

Why would you be adding segments?

First, I'd like to say that there is a lot of good information in this thread and it should be added to the Wiki instructions. As far as I can tell, there is nothing already included about u-turns.

Now, for my issue: NO U-turn allowed intersections! All of the above has been about indicating U-turns - but in my area there are many intersections where Waze routes a u-turn that are specifically u-turn prohibited by signage in the intersection.

Here is one such intersection:

How to indicate that no u-turns are allowed from any segment?

Thanks

Doesn't the unnamed road already allow u-turns from Southern Blvd Eastbound to Westbound (and vice versa)?

Well, that certainly is a different situation. Coming from an area where drivers have trouble handling two turn lanes in the same direction, that intersection terrifies me. ;)

If you are looking for a way to add the ability to make a u-turn without adding more to the confusion, you could add nodes that form an intersection with south lane of Southern Blvd ramp and then set the section of Southern Blvd ramp between 441 to two way and allow the turn from 441 nb to Southern wb to 441 sb. That should give the same effect as adding an additional one-way lane going against the flow of traffic.

I'll give it a shot

1.) I added temporary roads to get nodes
http://i45.tinypic.com/24z9iis_th.png

2.) Deleted the temporary roads, leaving the nodes behind

3.) Moved nodes to the point of intersections of the roads

4.) Set segment of Southern Blvd Ramp between the nodes to two way

5.) Enable turn from NB US-441/FL-7 onto two way segment

6.) Enable turn from two way segment onto SB US-441/FL-7

Segments that make up the U-Turn selected

I think you might have posted the wrong URL, that is the area of the first problem, but no segments selected.
