Candidate for Mapcat bowtie?

Post by tonestertm
The U-turn is not allowed from westbound Glenoaks (as are U-turns both directions on Central, for what that's worth). I haven't driven it myself yet; would someone making a U-turn from eastbound Glenoaks get a "Left turn -> Left turn" instruction the way this is?

I would try it out. And yes, u-turns often give two turn instructions. The segment of central between the two sides of Glenoaks should be unnamed if you leave this as-is.

Looks 99%! On the west side, there are two extra junctions which can be deleted, such as https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-118.2 ... s=53890715 and the one just south of it. And, the u-turn is disabled for westbound traffic, correct?

The middle road should be unnamed for a couple of general reasons. Now, I find that doing this really annoys me if I want to select the entire street and with an unnamed segment in the middle, this breaks the continuous segments, but that's a side-concerns. The reasons are 1) for the roadway where a u-turn is allowed, the driver will be told to turn left at the cross-road name, then turn left at the reverse-turn road name. For a u-turn maneuever, you don't really consider that you are turning onto the cross street; 2) Most important for the situation where the road on the left and right are different names: leaving the middle road name blank allows Waze to pick up the correct street name from the next named segment. (Example: https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-122.8 ... s=68911078) If you name the segment, it will always be wrong for one group of drivers who are actually turning onto the other street.

And, you are welcome. I apologize in advance for rants and being annoyed. :)

You only need the nameless piece for the separated divided highway intersection, for the purpose of making the turn cleaner in the client, not just anytime a road name changes at an intersection, right?
Yes, it's only for roads which change names across a divided intersection.

That's me not noticing it had alt-names before I set to to No Name. Thanks, fixed!

It ignores alt names and said the correct name of the street being turned on to.

What do you think?
What are the UR for that intersection? Is a U-Turn not allowed?

There are no turn restrictions on Hacienda Blvd going north or south. Left or U-turns are allowed on green turn arrows.

The signage for turns from eastbound Don Julian Rd does not prohibit U-turns, but makes no specific provision for them.

U-turns are prohibited from westbound Parriot Pl.

Thanks, Alan. I have finished with the bulldozers and paint. Here's the result, if you care to look. If not, I won't be offended. :)

Just curious, why should the short middle section of Central have been unnamed, if I had left it?

btw- In my short time editing, and uncountable hours reading forums looking for answers, I have learned quite a bit from you, Alan, along with a few other notable contributors, so Thank You! :D

Awww, crud. I meant to get rid of those...done! And, I believe the way I have the turn restrictions set is correct-- the westbound U-turn should be denied, yes.

Heh, funny you chose that intersection. I have a cousin next door in Tualatin (and others all over the Greater Portland area, actually...even Newberg!) Back in the ol' days we'd go over to Sherwood to do laundry while up there on vacation.

Thanks so much for your help on this and for the thorough explanation on the nameless segment. And despite that I still have dumb question #17. You only need the nameless piece for the separated divided highway intersection, for the purpose of making the turn cleaner in the client, not just anytime a road name changes at an intersection, right? F'r'instance this: https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-118.3 ... es=3895041

And I notice in your example that the middle segment does have alt.names (how do those come into play?), but not Roy Rogers. So Waze still gives the correct call on a left turn from NB 99 since its main name is None?
