Day/Auto/Night Switch

Post by
Anyone else having trouble with Auto mode? It doesn't always work.

Does anyone happen to know what criteria the client uses to determine this and how it can be fixed?

I've noticed that it won't switch automatically unless I shut down Waze and relaunch it. I started a trip today at 3:30p and ended at 8p. It was dark around 6p, but Waze stayed in day mode the entire time. I started a new trip around 8:30p and Waze went directly into night mode when it launched.

I am rarely driving at sunrise or sunset, but when I am, Waze automatically switches within minutes of sunrise/sunset (based on the Garmin in my work truck & the sunrise/sunset time in my clock app on my work phone).

I had today off work today, and I ended up driving at sunset... Sunset in Hartford, CT was at 4:19pm today - Waze was in day mode earlier & when I looked at it at 4:21 it was in night mode.

What device are you using?

I started with an iPhone 3GS last year and have since upgraded to the 4S and I've always kept my app up to date with the latest versions and it's always done this to me

I have Waze on both my HTC EVO 4G running Andriod 2.3.5 & my Motorolla Xoom tablet running Android 4.0.4.

If I start my evening commute in the basement of the building where I work, Waze will only switch to night mode once I am outside and a full fine GPS fix is confirmed. The roughly acquired location from cellular providers is not sufficient.

As long as I'm inside the house, it is on day mode. Once a GPS fix is received then night mode comes on. If I'm driving at 17:59 Hrs then the change happens exactly at 1800 Hrs.

I live in Chennai(f.k.a Madras). When I was using Waze in New Delhi, India, Waze switched modes at 1800, even if sunset was at 1900 Hrs.
It is likely that the time switch is not linked to Sunrise / Sunset times. That does not affect me coz I've started running the client in Map Editor theme, and since yesterday have switched the night mode off.

It does not switch on the hour unless sunset happened to be at that time anyway.
Sunrise and sunset as well as positions and orbits of the GPS system are part of the almanac and is used by the Waze app to determine day or night.
Why would you want to use a crappy light sensor ;-)
