I think he means that some of the segments can be combined into a single segment, eliminating the nodes that are currently there.

Several of the selected segments could probably be combined.

There are 4 in the above area that you might get rid of.

Within a week? Never seen that. Most times it is in the order of months...

There are not so many ways you could make an intersection like that so it may be mere coincidence if it looks alike.
