WAZE direction errors

Post by
Hi all. I've been using WAZE for a few months and enjoying the service. Suddenly this past Monday, 12/10/12, the navigation has gone crazy on me. On the way to work WAZE tries to send me down every street I come to. Has anyone experiences anything like this? Anyone know how to correct this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Shouldn't this segment be connected across to the CA17 southbound side? There's turn arrows on the pavement according to aerials. (GPS points are too messy to tell for sure.)

And aside: CA17 doesn't meet the guidelines for splitting around this area.

Due to a number of accidents at this intersection, some fatal, Cal-Trans eliminated turns from this intersection about a year ago. There are now barricades blocking any turns.
Got it. Thanks for the reply!

Does this happen every day? If not, it may be the core functionality of Waze - traffic avoidance - coming into play.

If it does happen every day, it sounds like there may have been a change to the map in your area...

Is there a spot on your trip where Waze stops trying to route a different way? That would be a good place to start looking in the editor for errors...

Unfortunately, you can't share a drive in a permalink (your drive data is private)...

Can you set up the route (use rough starting and end points if you're worried about privacy) on the livemap and send us that permalink?

Are you trying to take CA-17? If so I traced it from here (https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat ... 1,69845922) to where to becomes a waze type Freeway, and found one big denied straight through "turn" on the northbound, and a one or two smaller things on the southbound side. I did fix them, but there are still some significant work to do in that area (reverse connectivity, soft turns, etc) that someone local needs to handle...

That link is way too wide to work with... If you can zoom in more it will help.
mtnflyr wrote:I have been driving in this area for approximately three months with no problems. What could have happened to start the problems? Was there an update to the software for that area? If so could it be reversed?
Not a software update, but a map update (which Waze puts out quite frequently)... Sometimes things like this happen (a risk of using a crowd-sourced map), can they can't be reversed - you just have to find & fix the problem & then wait for the next map tiles update (typically once every week or two right now - look at http://status.waze.com/ for info when updates are put out). Sometimes when mistakes are made, they are caught before they go live by being flagged by automatically generated system detected problems, but not always.

I just checked CA-9 from Big Basin Hwy (https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat ... ts=5477830) to CA-1 to CA-17... Nothing has been edited in that area in the last 10 days (before the last map 2 update cutoffs)... I'm betting it's from the problem I found (and fixed) on CA-17 which had been last edited for this past update cycle. Because of that error, Waze didn't see CA-17 as a viable route, so it routed you around it. Check back after the next update (we don't know when it will be published yet) and let us know if the problem is fixed or if it's still there. If it's still there, drive your normal route (CA-17) and see if you can figure out where the instructions start being correct & post a permalink to that spot (zoomed in tight) - this will help us narrow down the problem spot.

That's the junction immediately south of where I found (and fixed) a denied straight through "turn" (both arrows were red) here: https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=8&lat ... s=68836486

Your routing should be fixed when the next map update goes live...

Since I'm not local to the area, I just checked CA-17 for connectivity to itself, I don't know the answer about that turn, and didn't pass any judgement on the splitting (or know when it was done)...
