Level 5 edit needed in Salt Lake City, UT

Post by brianhpratt
This road segment needs a junction added for a recently-added parking lot road:

Also here:
https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-111.9 ... s=69706010

And here:
https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-111.9 ... s=69705892

For all three, turns are allowed in both directions, both in and out.

Thanks. Sorry about the double-post. I posted in the wrong forum first. I should have tried to move or delete the post before making the second one.

I've added the junctions and those road segments are ready to be re-locked.

Thanks again!

That's too bad. I liked Waze not being confused by the previously-unmapped roads.

Waze should be able to handle not routing to these roads if they are marked as "parking lot" or "private" roads, in my opinion.

I'm sorry for causing you trouble, but your sarcasm is not appreciated.

By the way, it seems like this is likely to happen again and again, unless there is some other way to make Waze route the roads correctly or a way to mark why the road segments are locked. Any ideas?

I see the problems. Thanks for pointing them out, I appreciate your time and work on Waze!

I'm obviously new to editing, and no, I didn't know the Utah sub-forums existed, I'll check them out in the future. I tried to follow the editing guidelines, which lead me to submit a request in the Unlock Request forum (that's where I understood all unlock requests should go). It seems that, in this case, that wasn't the correct way to go. Perhaps I should have contacted the locker directly instead? Or asked in the Utah forums why the segment was locked? The documentation didn't lead me to try those methods.

I'm asking these questions to spur any thoughts for improvements in the documentation. Is there some other path someone in the future could be led on that would lead in the correct direction? Or again, maybe the WME could get an option to leave a comment with a road lock, or a link to a page in the wiki where such a lock could be discussed?

Thanks again - I'm just trying to be helpful :-)

Thanks for unlocking purposefully locked roads spil. Those parking lots and all connecting roads are behind security gates. We do not want Waze attempting to route people through those areas. Those roads were in place before and I was getting frequent UR's by people complaining that Waze attempted to route them through the security checkpoints. I fiddled with it and finally just decided that deleting was the best option. Only a few people who drive by there every day work for L3, so it was the needs of the many versus the needs of the few.

Also those parking lot land marks don't meet up with the currently poorly defined landmark standards. I.e. only public park and ride type lots.

Now I have to rebuild and re-lock this area yet again

My sarcasm was directed at a level 5 editor who unlocked an obviously limited set of locks without consulting the level 5 who locked them, not at you. Spil's a great editor and I respect his work, but he jumped the gun. And I locked those roads after having to clean up well meaning editors adding those roads multiple times. Each time me being brought back to them by more UR's.

As I said the roads were mapped in previously, and you'd think Waze would work right regarding private roads, but it doesn't always do so resulting in attempts to route where the public isn't allowed. I understand your desire for it to route along those roads, they should be on the map, but the frequent UR's made it not viable.

I don't lock roads just to lock them. I've never been one of those editors who locks everything (there used to be a reason to do so, but that went away before I joined) just because.

I do invite you to the Utah sub-forum. I wish more of those who edit would participate, to many just edit with no clue what they are doing and no clue that the forums even exist. viewforum.php?f=364

You weren't wrong to go to the unlock request forum, that's what it's for. However it's not a bad idea to try PMing the editor who locked it first. If they don't respond, then come to the unlock forum. As I said you really did nothing wrong in requesting the unlock, my sarcasm/frustration was directed more at Spil and only because I've been working with that area for months now and finally resorted to locking it, only to find it getting unlocked.

Welcome aboard, feel free to PM me with any questions. I try to always answer within a day.

p.s. it also didn't help that I was coming down with a cold on the day this all went down and thus wasn't in the greatest mood.

Never mind -- found your other post in the Update Requests board and merged it into this topic. In the future, please just post in only one board. If it's something you just need unlocked, use this board (Unlock Requests); if it's something that you need a more experienced editor to fix for you, use the Update Requests board.

These three unlocks are completed; you can connect the Parking Lot Roads now. :)
