Also, I don't know who actually runs the "Waze Mapping Support" twitter account but I asked about the parking lot landmark before I came here to look.

"@WazeMapping Does the "parking lot" landmark have any use?"

"Limited use. That landmark was originally intended for public or pay lots, not every mall lot out there."

Wasn't it discussed and agreed already in this thread that *NO* landmark suppresses traffic? Gas Stations and Parking Lots only suppress some automatically generated reports, nothing else as far as I understood.

Landmark not suppress traffic jams.

Gas station landmarks do not suppress traffic in any way shape or form. This has been confirmed by the developers.

That twitter account is run by one of the U.S. Waze Champs. The information given was correct, although I think the term "mall" could be misinterpreted. There's no need or use in putting every parking lot for every little business or "strip-mall". It clutters the map.

Of course, if a "mall" as in "major shopping center" is landmarked to the property boundaries, there's no need for an additional parking lot landmark over the parking area.

Landmarks prevent map problems to appear "under" the polygons. all except restricted turns and route frequently not taken.

I think items that should be mapped are places they are associated primarily with driving/travel. That would include train stations, bus stations, airports, public parking lots (not business parking lots), hotels, car repair locations, amusement parks & sports/concert venues, gas stations, schools/universities, car rental locations, ALL 24hr hospitals and EMS/Fire/Police stations. As for mapping businesses, I would map businesses that are in large buildings. IE: Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Target... Pretty much any grocery store & big shopping malls like Mall of America for example.

Public Parking is already covered directly in the app without need of a landmark. Hotels, repair, rental, Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, grocery stores, etc are all revenue streams and just add clutter.

I'll agree all revenue streamed businesses shouldn't be mapped per say but I think hotels would still be good to see on a map. I can't tell you the countless times I've had people ask "hey do you know how I can get to ****** hotel" Seeing it on a map could potentially help some either find a hotel nearby or navigate to it a little easier.
