Level 5 - Sherman, TX

Post by AggieJM
I need a level 5 to connect a new ramp to US Hwy 82 E in Sherman, TX.

https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=7&lat ... s=71274987

While you're in the area, I also noticed a number of nodes on US Hwy 82 that have reverse connectivity issues.

Thanks!

No problem. We'll call it a "change of destination" as opposed to hijacking. :D

I agree on the right turn lane issue. That intersection was built before I got there, so I haven't gone through it yet to remove those ramps. I've removed them from some of the smaller intersections in the area, but I didn't work on that one the other day since I didn't have much time to edit and didn't want to screw something up at a major intersection.

As for frontage road names, that's a good discussion to have. I know it came up on 75 a while back. When there is a "name" assigned to the highway, I use that for the frontage. But in cases like 82 where there is no real name (at least not one immediately recognizable), I haven't changed it from what it had originally. I didn't realize the "US Hwy 82 Service Road" designation would generate a shield, so I'll keep an eye out for things like that in the future.

Hi AggieJM,

I had a couple of questions/comments about the area in question.

Specifically, I was looking at the 82/75 junction. First of all, most of the right turn lane segments aren't necessary unless they are significantly before the intersection. In the event they are, I believe you are still supposed to go with the lowest level street classification (so rather than ramp, in this case they would be service road). Secondly, I know this is the trendy thing and perhaps the naming conventions even require it now (haven't checked in a while) but are we doing all highways in the US-## style now? If so, I can change all of US 75 to keep it consistent...just doesn't seem necessary. Thoughts? And last of all, I've found that rather than "Connector Rd", the prompt for a "U-Turn" makes most sense in these situations. Accordingly, I updated both items (and made one from a 2 way into a 1 way in the process, I assume this was a boo boo). Any how, I hope you are doing well and glad to see you're still Wazing around! PM if you need anything in the way of assistance or unlocks.

Well, in the DFW metro area, I have labeled them U-Turns consistently so I will stay with that trend for now even if you all do things different in San Antonio!

I agree with the shields issue. I typically use the hwy number for the actual hwy and the local (aka) for the Frontage Rd. So for instance, US 67 is Marvin D. Love Fwy in some areas. When I said service rd, I just meant as a road type, not the actual name so I am confused as to what you mean? When the road is US Hwy 75, then frontage can be Hwy 75 or US-75 or in the case of my area, N Central Expy.

Maybe it's the blonde in me but I didn't label those segments. Is it a problem as it is now or what should be different about the service road segments. So confused. Are you taking issue with the name, the type, something I did?

I've been labeling the "U-turn" as "Turnaround" for this simple reason. There's usually a sign that says "Turnaround" with an arrow pointing left directing you to....well, simply....turnaround. :)

Also, I think service roads/frontage roads shouldn't be named as the same as the highway(s) they serve for a couple of reasons. I've found that shield generation will default to the service road before it creates one on the actual highway. I don't know why, don't know how, but it does. Second, you don't take an exit off of US-82 onto US-82, you take the exit off of US-82 and get onto the service road, which leads me to my next point about service roads.....Have you ever seen an exit for "Service Rd"? I haven't, although I've seen plenty for "Frontage Rd."

From another discussion, somewhere, and I cannot remember with who, "Frontage Rd" seems to be the better name when it comes to these roads. That's my honest opinion.

I'm talking about the names. If you label a service road as "US Hwy 82 Service Road" Waze pops a shield onto the road, instead of the actual highway. Don't ask me why. That's why I'm all for naming service roads that don't have names assigned to them as "Frontage Rd."
