I believe you are referring to the Griffin Autopilot, same as what i use.

I have found that suspending/clipping the iPhone from the right side of the sun visor puts the iPhone in a position that I normally view as I move my head left and right while driving.

Also the iPhone blends into the dash rather than having its own silhouette. I can easily view the app and make reports by tapping or with voice commands.

I also can attach and remove the phone quickly and safely.

I'm going to sound like quite the chump compared to you guys. I drive a 92 Honda Civic ex. I'm also on the iphone 3g but running 3.01 and on T-Mobile! Edge data doesn't seem to be a problem for waze!
