Usually, I just click on the 'View your posts' link under the board index line, and then click on the title link line for any topic in the list that has a red icon on the left end.
Has always worked to show me the latest items added to the threads (I have them sorted to show most recent).

Yesterday, one of the topics kept a red icon, no matter what I did. Has cleared up now.
