List of suggestions

Post by mimi1806
1. Mark school zones on maps
2. user reputation used to determine how many reports can be submitted within a time period
3. submit posted speed limit
4. alert when you are going significantly faster than posted speed limit
5. when submitting info via the app. rather than making the user focus by hunting about the screen for where the next thing to tap is going to be (it takes I believe 5 taps to submit a vehicle on the side of the road and each tap is in a different part of the screen) why not center it on the screen and use audio to express options so we could double tap to accept for example or tap once to skip to next. There has to be a way to require less attention when submitting an alert. One hand tapping in one place and receiving audio responses seems like a valid way of improving this.

This has been suggested before, however since Waze knows the average speed of each segment broken down in 10-15 minute increments, Waze already knows when traffic in the school zone slows down, and will route around it. Please note, that sometimes it's still faster to go through the jam (any traffic jam) than to go around it.

There are already some limits in place, I believe they are more time/distance related than reputation based.

Suggested several times (and most users are against it) - http://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=39265

Waze does has a Speech Recognition System with access to all of the reports (and a whole lot more). There is a list somewhere either in the fourm or the wiki, but I can't find it right now.
EDIT: Of course I find it 10 seconds after I post this reply. The voice commands list is here: http://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=22023

further clarification, several who claim to understand the complexity of something that other services have been doing for years are against it, but many still favor it.

Other paid services that were able to do it despite not having the amazing ability of live users reporting speed limits and user map editing. Those paid services probably bought a speed limit database somewhere but have/had little ability to update in anything close to a timely manner as speed limits get changed. Waze has the ability thanks to the massive number of users out driving around, automatically reporting speed travel data and having the ability to tap a button to report a speed limit too high or too low. And a massive pool of casual and dedicated volunteer editors who can update their local areas as needed. How is this any different that us reporting house numbers, gas prices, construction zones and any of the numerous other data bits we can and do report every day. To say it's too complex is a lie considering every other data point we are reporting every day. And how that reporting, particularly in areas of heavy use, quickly updates the map, the routing and the overall Awesomeness that is Waze.

I'm amazed the paid services even attempt speed limit data considering their prior lack of two way communication with the devices (many devices do now communicate).

Clarification: The majority of people that understand the complexity of it are against it!

As soon as that army of wazers can get camera reporting right I will *begin* to believe it's possible. They are far more simple yet that army manages to make a complete mess of them.

All of the things you mention are discreet items, ie they have a single location. Speed limits are continuous, it's not a simple case of reporting them like you would cameras (crap in the app), house numbers (scarce to say the least), traffic etc.

And if they are that easy to report then it's that easy to look out your windscreen and pay attention!
