I don´t have FB account, because privacy is nothing for FB and Zuckerberg said that privacy is a relic in modern era. I only have about 150k points, I use waze for getting rid of traffic jams, but when FB buys Waze, i will quit as well. I hope there will be alternative..

Took me quite a while about this acqusition rumor thing. :D

I've been an early victim of Facebook when they acquired Gowalla (geo-social networking), probably because Facebook already owned their location based app and need Gowalla just to polish and strenghten their infrastructure..
I've done lots of venue edits, been to their Street Team (gowalla editor club) and Zap.. all gone! -_-"
That's the calculated risk that I have to take from the moment I've decided to plunged into social internet activity, especially the free one. I realized that there's no 100% privacy guarantee in cyberspace.

Plenty of new users and editors will come from Facebook if this happen and they need a serious guidance.
Acquired or not, I'll keep contributing to the waze community until my service is no longer required.
Besides I'm just a simply ordinary guy who's not afraid of being tracked my whereabouts.

Let the business do their business as long I still have/feel fun in it.

Cheers!

Yet another article this morning about Facebook being interested in Waze.

http://www.sfgate.com/technology/busine ... 546440.php

Personally, I think Waze would be silly to not accept an offer soon. Eventually the Social Media bubble will either burst or deflate. The technology behind Waze is not that groundbreaking or complex, they're just the furthest along in implementation. Companies either buy or build. Eventually the big players will spend their $1B+ to build their own and Waze will be the MySpace of GPS social media apps.

And this whole thing about not wanting to relocate from Israel. At the price they're offering they could commute between the two places and still have leftover money. Besides, hasn't Waze's business model always been about building a startup as quickly as possible and selling it for massive profit anyway? Building the best social media GPS has always appeared to be secondary to that.

Yeah, like that TV fad back in the 60s.
It did deflate. The TV industry of today is VERY different than it was in the 60's. How much local programming do you see now compared to the 60s? How much original programming do you see?

The industry has consolidated to just a very few major players. They market themselves as being all these different things, ABC, ESPN, A&E, History Channel, Lifetime, but you know what, all of those are owned by Disney. Same goes for Comcast and its galaxy of "brand names". It appears you have choice, but you really don't.

The ones that didn't jump on the bandwagon of being gobbled up by one of these few media providers have disappeared.

Part of this rumored offer is to allow Waze to "operate independently" until 2016. This was a sticking point for the Facebook deal and was the supposed deal-breaker.

It appears that the deal is complete.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-06-0 ... llion.html

Looks like Google/Waze is waiting for Monday morning to come to the US before making the official announcement.

The Israeli workweek begins on Sunday, so the first day of the workweek is already over in Israel. Guess we'll have to wait until the workweek begins in the US.

Yeppers. It makes the most sense from Google's and Waze's point of view. It's a win-win situation. Waze investors gets its big bucks and Google prevents a competitor from getting a leg up on social mapping. One would be silly to think that Google hasn't already been working on its own Waze-like social aspect for Google maps.

modernborn wrote:Just in case the waze family really read these post, Waze has the potential to be something better than facebook ever could, something functional and make its own Waze book to rival any billion dollar company, by providing the most functional information to the world the makes a difference in people lives every day. The potential for this app is insane, and i sometimes wonder if they even have a clue as to what they can envolve into. With that said, lets give them some ideas as to what they can do with Waze to achieve a mass following. I will add one thing I think would be cool is an Information POP up for each city you go thru of how many break ins, murders, rapes ect would be more than interesting but still functional. What school are falling apart, Unemployment rate, number of pot holes, number of accidents. Number of police cars , the bottom line is wazers our an interesting breed of wanting functional information to make us more successful and powerful and they have a big enough jump to be the leader in an revolutionary new way of thinking and gaining a following that would put FB to shame. But in all honesty a Billion dollars could make a company go stupid. Lol
i never thought about it until you mentioned it here.
but waze could talk with life 360 to get info on crimes and sex offenders etc. (life 360 has this data)

I will not edit maps for facebook.

The problem with FB is they are publicly traded and on a global mission for the "Facebookifacation" of everything.

Count me out, I can find something else.

I totally understand why Waze would sell, It's still a slap in the face none the less.

I was shocked and disgusted when I heard it on the radio and felt ashamed I used Waze on my way to work today.
