Why are junctions not automatically deleted with road

Post by driver257
When a road is deleted, why are there junctions left dangling in space unattached to any road?

What is the purpose of having a junction with no road attached?

This is a related question, but a slight tangent, so forgive the threadjack

Should the junction at the end of roads, cul de sacs, etc. be left as-is because they serve a purpose, or, when we're "in the area" doing other map-editing working, is it fine and dandy to remove these junctions as well?

Agreed, this seems to be a small oversight in ease of use, I can't see why junctions that no longer have a road attatched should need to stay on the map.

Awww, Wayne. I believe you're over in NZ? If I had the money, I'd come hang out with you, we could ramp up points cruising the land of the long white cloud.

Maybe this has to do with the junction in the centre of a roundabout? Those do not seem to be connected, but deleting them will make roundabouts ordinary roads!

It's not just roundabouts. Delete a road with a junction or two on it, and the junctions are likely to remain. I don't think ti does any harm. I imagine it would be fairly trivial to write a small script to go through the Waze database, look for junctions that aren't part of a road, and delete them. I imagine they have other priorities.

So the best advice, I think, is just ignore them. But I delete them whenever I see them because I'm just a sad lonely man with nothing better to do... :|

I think the junction normally appears when someone records a road driving in, turns around (creating the junction, and drives out.

I have seen two claims made in these forums:
1. If you don't have the junction at the end of the road, Waze won't route correctly. And other dire predictions.
2. It's tidier to remove it and does no harm.

I'm in camp #2. I have seen no evidence of #1 and I've removed them every time I see them.
I think the Map editing consensus has come that a junction should only be used when necessary to connect two roads. Not everyone agrees.
