Does Waze cache point data when network is unavailable?

Post by skumar69
Hi,
I was recently driving and found that the road munching icon appeared, which would mean that I discoverde new roads, not in the map yet.

Unfortunately, my phone was not connected to Waze and was showing "searching for network...", perhaps because it could not connect to GPRS during that time.

When I reached home after half an hour, I had wifi at home. Would Waze use this network now to update my new munched roads to give me the points and update the new roads in the database?

Same problem here since about a week or so. Would like to get an official statement from Waze too, but even when I now connect via Wifi it seems Waze isn't connecting at all.

I doubt it. It didn't work for me.
But I would also be interrested in some official statement ;-)

damn good idea an indicator of cached data waiting to upload would be great and an official statement regarding whether cached data is stored from one session to another

i have had both behaviors

1 . data is cached but if i don't keep the app active until i get to wifi it deletes the cached data on next start and never uploads

2 no data uploads but once i exit and restart app it uploads data

also my waze android client reports baby but my login on the web reports 3500+ points (and i know i put in over 1500 miles as i drive 70 to 150 miles a night (for work but waze comes along too) 5 to 7 days a week
but it keeps saying i need another 76 miles to next level

course now i cant get the scoreboard anyway so whatever

hmm how much data allowed to collect wasnt there a setting on data space allowed
well any way should be a setting to allow from 20 mb to 20 gb (hey man i have a 500 gb archos )
speaking of which i really wish there was a way to set certain areas of maps as loaded into local caching cause well i cover multiple routes a week from bay city to shiner to beeville to rockport and port lavaca, port oconner

It depends a lot on your phone type. It might help to turn data compression on as I think it uses a different buffering scheme then. I have successfully uploaded about 60 miles of data with my iPod touch. I try to get the wifi connected before I turn Waze off. If I have to deviate from a route while not connected, it will sometimes crash so I "Stop Navigation" if i reach a detour or decide to stray. I think it also depends on how busy the server is at the time as sometimes it just does not work although the data transfer message shows data moving (in some direction). Waze on.

You should probably cast your 3 votes here then to speed that up.

If you have no connection, data is cached locally, and then gets uploaded to the servers. The trick is (according to Waze support) that the data gets uploaded the next time when you start Waze with a working network connection.
So the best practice would be to come home, turn off Waze, log on to your WiFi and then launch Waze again. This is what I put together from the few posts by Waze support on the topic of offline caching, so it's not guaranteed to work (but worth a try).
Edit: I would also like to read some official statement on this topic, since the original posts said caching works differently (or not at all) on the various platforms (Android, iPhone, WinMo, BB).

I guess then, the Waze client should indicate that it is locally collecting driving data and should indicate when it has been successfully uploaded to Waze servers.

Also how much data can it collect without internet connectivity?

I hope that waze support address this soon because I was driving over a bonus item (e.g. cupcake) when network connection was lost. It came back and I didn't get anything for it, not even when I turned the phone back on! :?
