Colour segments with empty streets

Post by erablian
While trying to find what the new keyboard shortcut is for “toggle satellite imagery”, I discovered a shortcut I did not know about before: Shift + D: Colour segments with empty streets.

Colour segments with empty streets? What does that mean? Streets with no GPS tracks? No, what it actually seems to do is colour-highlight streets with no name. This is a very poorly worded description: An “empty street” conjures up an image of a street with no traffic, not one with no name. The description was probably written by a non-native speaker of English and never caught and corrected by QA.

This should be fixed.

That's what happens when a technical fact makes it into the User Interface. It means a street with no name. In database terms, the field for the name is "emtpy"...

Yeah, I guess so. Street is a parent of the segment. Every segment has a PrimaryStreetID. Multiple segments can have the same primary street id. That value cannot be empty, but it does point to a street with no name and the same city specified (if any). Every country/state/city/streetname combination has a unique street id.

Agreed, at the very least it should say "Empty street field".

Thanks for posting the bug report. But if we are getting technical, “empty street” is still imprecise and vague because that would mean the whole database row was null, not just the name field. :)
