Traduction canadienne-française/French-Canadian Translation

Post by badaza
[English version will follow]

I contacted Waze about the french translation, which is really about France and other European countries. They suggested I work on a French-Canadian translation and ask for help and feedback on the forums. I'll be able to work on it after the semester ends (the finals and term papers are coming up).

I took a quick look at the existing translation and I'd say that close to a third of the terms on the first tab would need correction. I didn't check the other tabs yet.

I think that, with a good translation, we could get more Quebecers to contribute (and francophones from other provinces too who, by the way, are welcome to help out on the translation). As it is, I don't really bother trying to talk about the app to other people as I don't think they'd use it in English and the French translation would turn most people I know off.

Hey,

My main problem is that all all accented characters get seriously misinterpreted: é gets read as "copyright" for example. Probably just a case of bad locale or UTF issue.
Why not just ignore accents since few text to speech apps do a good job pronouncing them anyways.

Je serais intéressé car je suis moi aussi un utilisateur de waze et adore le produit. J'aimerais beaucoup travailler à aider les producteurs à en faire un produit international dont personne ne pourrait se passer.

Salut les cousins,

Je suis pas canadien, mais de l'autre côté de l'ocean. On pourrais peut-être collaborer pour adapter la version francophone à tous les pays francophone.

We are working on the WME's french translation. Because it will involve all french speakers, I need your approval on road type. That's what I've proposed on the french forum, can you check and tell us your opinion please ? :
