I've been trying to use chat in WME but it's not easy mainly for two reasons:
First, if the chat window is minimized to increase working area, the notification for new comments/messages is barely visible, I often miss there's something new unless I'm actively waiting for it and looking at the icon every few minutes.
Second, there are no time stamps, when I finally notice that something happened I can't tell if it was a minute or a hour ago, and if it still make sense sending a reply (normally, when I reply I end up being ignored, probably by the same reason I didn't noticed someone was trying to chat in the first place...)
I think if Waze could improve those two points it would be much easier, at least for me :) , to make a real use of chat.

There is no easy way to scroll. Can only use the slider/ arrows. The new message line covers the down arrow, so you end up going to the new message, then have to scroll back up to where you were reading.

If you highlight a url that hasn't wrapped to stay in the chat window, the whole left side of the text moves off to the left, and the only way I've managed to get it back is to refresh the page, losing the chat messages.

Click and drag back to the left.

Im my experience, this works sometimes, but not always. Haven't found out what it depends on.

Would be better, I think to have the complete button flashing.

Challange Accepted ;)
Userstyle.org provide some nice tool for configuring style before installation, so now user can chose between this small flashing indicator from screenshot above and flashing speech baloon. Diffrent for visible and invisible mode.
A whole button is now on TODO list because it need a little more work.
