Unable to change email in dashboard

I was trying to update my email address using the dashboard (as explained in the FAQ) and when I change it on the dashboard it tells me that it can not save it:

Save failed. please try again.

Is there a problem with the system?

Apparently it will not let you use an already used email address (even if account was deleted).

But in using gmail addresses the dots don't count (to gmail) but are seen as different in Waze.

So the question is: how long is a deleted account kept in the database so that it can not be reused?

How can I update my email? I've tried multiple browsers and mobile devices by going to my Waze dashboard > Personal Details page. I get the same error. I can change everything else except email.

Error Message: "Save failed. please try again."

I did a quick password reset and the correct e-mail is associated with the correct username, but still listed incorrectly in my dashboard. Weird.
