US-52 between I-85 and I-85 Bus in Lexington

Post by egnralnc
Hi all,

(resolved)

I'm posting this here because it's specific to a route in NC and I'd like agreement from locals.

The section of US-52 between I-85 and I-85 Business near Lexington is misnamed as I-85 Bus, and mis-typed as major highway. It should be named US-52 with I-85 Business as an alternate. Exit #s are number based on US-52 mileposts. Also, this section of highway is freeway, no less so than long older stretches of I-95, I-85 and I-40 in NC.

All main road segments are locked level 5. I have not checked the lock level of the associated ramps. If we agree to this change, I'd be glad to make the change at level 3 if someone could lower the lock temporarily on all highway and ramp segments affected.

Regards, Eric.

Yep, no problem. It's not urgent. Very surprised that Waze would route along I-85 business regardless of route type unless there was a traffic issue on mainline I-85. I-85's normally 5 minutes or so faster. If it is, sounds like a bug in the routing software, not a bug in the map.

More on this. I-85 Business is not on the approach signage leading to the exit on I-85 N. Only US 52/29/70 Winston-Salem.

Eric,

I just had a conversation with another editor about this the other day. If you wouldn't mind can you hold off until I hear something back.

Regarding the major highway designation I will have to look but I think it was because it was trying to route people on Bus 85 when 85 was quicker.

That other Business section maybe the section I was thinking of then.

There was that issue in Greenville, SC as well. I drove it one time on a weekend and it seemed like 6 of half dozen of another. But at the time, when we had the "Speed data" I couldn't make it work.

So the jury is out on that one. We can give it another shot up there if you want by typing it to the FC. Especially since we know have two people keeping an eye on the area.

There is a similar routing issue a little further north (and a UR) regarding routing onto I-85 Bus through Greensboro rather than staying on I-85. In this case, the reporter has Waze set for "fastest time", and at the time of day, the routing on I-85 Bus would have probably been shorter and quicker. Is there preference for routing where Waze will direct drivers to stay on the primary route? Havana, we saw similar issues of routing on I-85 Bus down in South Carolina a little while back.

Oh and Eric, congrats on rank 3!
