Expected changes in editing permissions

Post by
Hi Wazers,
In the next few days (hopefully less than two weeks) we are going to deploy the following changes in editing permissions:
  • Level 3 is a significant level that allows editing high risk segments and therefore requires extensive knowledge of map editing and a lot of experience. Currently, this level can be reached too fast. To avoid innocent mistakes on important segments, the number of edits required for level 3 will change from 10k edits to 25k edits.
  • Level 3 editors - permission radius around driven area will change from 4 miles to 3 miles

[Comment]In the future we plan to support different radius permission parameters for different countries but until this is supported - we chose numbers that are reasonable on a global scale.
Thanks,
Shirli

Hi ispyisail.
We have been testing the auto lock system in Costa Rica. It works fine, we managed to reduce max lock to 5 in order to keep it accessible for the editors. This system also works increasing locks level, but never decreasing.
About the editors level, there are several communities working on a mentoring program which is planned to teach new editors rewarding them with editing levels according to their progress in the course.
If you want to improve this too. Let me know.
Regards.

You are misunderstanding the idea. This will be a separate thing. To help people to edit and increase their level with out waiting for edit points. Both systems will work at the same time, the editor will choose the way to go.

Its all ready on the way......... auto-locks based for traffic flow (as I understand it)

I understand that many parts of the world all ready have it.

The problem is

Many roads can get auto locked to level 6 and down (as I understand it)

NZ

level 6 = 2
level 5 = 0
level 4 = 1
level 3 = 10 - 20 ?

Active editors 1 - 5 ?

We can / could go down the self management path where proven editors get upgrades without meeting the required requirements.

My personal feeing is unless we get a mass influx of committed edits the current system is working for now?

Have you got more details about this program? Maybe a link?

I had a quick read and that's some serious stuff.

From my understanding they are proposing upgrades based on coarse.

You would have to physically go to a meet up and pass a level 2 paper etc

The higher the level the harder the coarse

I can see merit in this and I understand why!

I myself have disagreed with this as I have treated Waze like Wikipedia.

Its like comparing "Wikipedia" vs "encyclopaedia Britannica"

I think there are some forces that think Waze should be like encyclopaedia Britannica

I know which I use more

Can you get to level 6 with points only?
