I would never forget the Lahaina train, having ridden on it when I was (much) younger! I did say "most of them." (Funny, the Oahu Railway tourist train looks even more toy-like than that!) ;-)

Guideline request: I'm assuming this applies to all forms of rail, including light rail? Construction will resume soon on Honolulu's first elevated rail system, which is the main reason why I ask.

Additionally, the only thing my home island has now is a brief segment of the (defunct) legacy commuter system, now in use only as a rail museum attraction. It cuts through one community, with crossing signs and everything, so maybe that could be mapped just for clarity, I would think.

The neighbor islands have remnants of industrial track from the old sugar plantation days, but most are not in use at all and wouldn't need to be mapped.

Sometimes it's a good thing to put your foot down, but other times you have to get your own house in order as well. In this case I think it cuts both ways.

The paving that we had to clean up frequently could only stop if users are snapped to railroads and if they actually saw them in the client, thereby stopping the urge to pave them in the first place. This frequently messed up maps.

The tainting of speed data on adjacent roads also tend to do more damage for routing than any rogue editor can do if Wazers are not snapped to it, which is why alternate types were used in some countries.

Either each object needs a note field with an icon indicating notes are attached, or editors need an editable/visible note pin that remains visible in WME irrespective of visible layer selection. This would stop the 'notes' aspect.

The routing engine needs to honor the non-drivable aspect of roads not meant for commuting and the client somehow
needs to honor snapping to any road type while not navigating without tainting speeds that are outside the norm.

Just my 2c.

The UR hack is clever, but the key point of the notes on railroads was to communicate to the entry level editors who do not use any of our cool tools in the first place and may not even know about the UR layer.

Plain and simple:

1. We need a solution to guarantee new editors see a note.
2. (IMO) Seeing a railroad on the map is a very MINOR aid to navigation vs. the ability to communicate with a novice editor who is going to screw up the map.

Therefore keep the railroad invisible UNTIL we have a tool to guarantee communication to 100% of the users as an alternative to the current method that uses the Railroad segment.

I just sent a message to the Waze team that said they would not implement RRs in the client until they solved the editor communication problem. I will report back what I find.

IF you have the UR layer even on, URs have to be clicked to see their content. If you have hundreds of closed URs in an area because someone keeps changing the map to match the visual, how does the next editor know which one has the editor notes vs user problem?
