This is all pending while we wait for Waze to confirm that they will create a 'Customer Parking' Category.

But the new direction for 'Parking Lot' or Car Park' is that it should only be used for parking where you can park you car (with/without a fee) and safely leave the area to go about your business. Most Malls/supermarkets/Retail parks/offices only allow parking for while you are on the premises.

The reason for this is that a search for parking should only return a result for parking were you can leave the premises otherwise a Wazer might be directed to a parking area that is not suitable. If the Wazer was heading to 'Sainsbury's' then they would not be searching for parking but the store itself.

Given that Places search is currently not working properly it isn't an immediate issue but it will be in the future. Expect a fix 'soon' (or earlier).

Pending because we don't know if we will get 'Customer Parking' or not, depending on if we have it or not will make a huge difference to the wiki/guidance.

My advice for now is still do do nothing until the wiki is finalised.

A reminder, if anyone has any categories that they would like added I am compiling a list to forward to Waze.

It's been there for quite some time.

All of the translations strings are there in Transifex but some don't currently work like 'Place (Point)' and 'Place (Area)'.

I'm still waiting on some answers back from Waze so not much progress yet on the wiki.

A small update: Waze finally came back to me recently and confirmed that they would NOT be adding any additional place categories as discussed at the UK Meet.

I just found the shortcut for Places is still using the old one: shift+L(Landmarks), which should be changed.

For petrol stations, there is an address field, for which we can populate "street" and "city". I'd like to suggest that the street be the nearest classified road, where there is one nearby.

For example, at this supermarket petrol station, I've set the street to the nearby A road rather than the side road it is actually on ("A3100 - Clay Ln" rather than "Bowers Farm Dr").

And for this motorway service station, I've set it to the motorway name and direction.

Thoughts, better ideas?
