I may not get the social aspect of Waze, but that's okay. I'm willing to bet many people aren't using the app as I do. Hardcore driving, and being a GPS geek. 8^)

This morning I updated and installed the new Waze before going to work.

The search engine seems to have been revamped. As far as I can tell, in a general search, your favorites are no longer returned, or your destination history, or the people in your phone book. (ISTR that there were other types of results returned, I just don't remember them off-hand.)

As for your destination history -- this is the one that I find the worst killer. It's gone -- simply vanished after an hour or so. This alone is guaranteed to make things much harder for me. I'm compiling a list of hundreds if not thousands of places that I need to deliver to. At the end of my work day, I would look over my drive history and use that as a list of places where I might need to edit the Waze map. Now that list is no longer there.

And the favorites list is still as disfunctional as always. The only order there is the order that they were entered in on. Even having them displayed in the order most recently used would be helpful. Just save all destinations as favorites before driving. (Well, the ones I want to look back on later.)

If I could roll back to the previous version of Waze, I would. But as I run Linux on my computers, backing up my apps is a lot harder than finding a way to back up my data.

Oh, on a side note, when my phone updated the software, I was apparently waiting for a 300 point candy for making 3000 edits. Today, while on my 11 hour drive to/from/during work, I ended up eating at least 15 of those candies. (It seems like whenever I shut off waze for a bit while at a stop, then turned it on after a longer than brief stop, I would get another 3-4 candies. Then nothing until the following stop.) Actually, I probably had more candies than that -- I couldn't always glance at the screen and I did have mysterious, "What road candy did I just eat?" moments today. I even had a moment where I was sitting in my basement apartment, looking at Waze for the destinations history to go over my edits (with the phone perfectly still on the desktop) when I heard candy-eating sounds without knowing why...

As I was already in the national top 50 for weekly points (mostly due to edits, I don't drive THAT much!), it should be interesting to see how many points I have tomorrow when they update, and see if they were credited to my account... Hmmm... Maybe I should have stayed quiet here...

I would also hear a "pock" sound indicating a new football/soccer ball appeared on the map, and I would see it for an moment, and then it would dissapear. But I would still get credit (3 points, with the popup showing that I just ate a road candy) for eating it.

So with Waze, it's been an interesting day. Unfortunately, it looks like I'll need to do a lot more manual work to keep doing the updates that I have, due to the lack of saved searches. And the additional problems with the new search engine.

I can also confirm that the USA TTS is not working on its default setting "Samantha" since the upgrade to 3.8.0

Also noticed that the map directs are very strange. I use Waze every day commuting to and from work. Now the directions home are telling me to get off the highway and take side streets when there is no traffic.

Also telling me to go into a parking lot then turn around and get back on the street again. Very strange and so far very unreliable. It was working fine until the upgrade.

I also tried it on my wife's Iphone 5 too and the same issue persists. I think there needs to be another update to fix these issues.

After the latest upgrade the verbal directions are terrible!
Often the verbal cue is too early.
It says things like
"turn right then turn left".
The only problem is that the left is 3 blocks away but it sounds like the left is immediately after the right.

Then sometimes the cue is late like a 'keep left' on the expressway, only given AT the point where you must keep left. No verbal cue before and nothing from the sign.

Another a cue too early and too cryptic to be useful.
Three blocks before a right turn onto an entrance ramp to the expressway:
"Exit"
No clue as to when or where or why.
At the ramp it said "Exit right".
Again no clue as to where or why.

These verbal cues are dangerous and misleading!

1. Earlier, waze used to notify me as "arriving at home", now it just says "you have reached your destination". This feels very AI like unlike the earlier notification.

2. When i lock my phone screen, waze dosent give me any directions. Earlier it used to. This is sorty of killing the experience as now i am more concerned of the battery than reaching home. :?

Favorites on iOS have always been able to be reordered manually. I agree that another sorting order would be nice to apply, like age/last use or alphabetical. We've had that feature request in for a real long time.

Yes. Confirmed!!!

Noted multiple times in the thread, that TTS and 3.8 are still buggy. Please read my post(s) earlier in this thread about it. Other users are finding it works better as time goes on.

Totally agree. I registered the same complaint during beta testing. The "and then" functionality was better before IMO, but even then still needed a lot of work.

This is odd. Only thing I can think is that the TTS bugs are preventing Waze from saying anything at all.

This could be an artifact of another bug introduced in the very last beta version that was released. In that version, they removed the names of unnamed segments from the display and TTS started saying "turn right on" instead of "turn right." I wonder if unnamed segments of ramps which we have long-relied on for pulling the name of the next named segment, is also failing now. Or it could just be the "regular" TTS bugs. (FYI, the last beta version also became the official 3.8 version. They released it without fixing bugs reported by users the day the beta was released.)

Hundreds of users over the years have asked for much more advance notice of turns, such as just after the previous turn, Waze will now announce the next turn right away. 4.3 miles seems to be some magical number. It's close to 7km, whatever that means. :) But I believe that distances over 4.3 miles are supposed to say the time to the next turn instead of distance. However, with the TTS bugs, it isn't able to download the time-based announcement and ends up defaulting to the 4.3 miles distance. This was experienced and I think reported during the beta cycle.
