Thanks, that worked. I hope they fix this release soon.

iOS 3.8.0 Official Feedback Thread

As of today (first day after the update) I have a different voice and do not seem to be able to change it back. The new voice is very annoying (to my ears at least ;) ) so any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Waze has never used Siri because Apple doesn't allow it. Previous version had Samantha and Tom for TTS voices. There are other voices which do not give street names though. You can choose any of those. But again, Siri was never one of them.

Nuance's Samantha, Waze's default TTS voice, is also the "Siri voice". Apple has since done (or gotten Nuance to do) some improvements, making Siri speak more "naturally", but they were born the same voice.

My guess is Samantha wasn't downloaded properly and the non-TTS voice (which I agree is rather annoying) is being used instead.

I would think one of the bug fixes would have been to improve bluetooth microphone compatibility. This is the only app I have that can't hear me through my bluetooth head unit in my car.

The new version still has a problem that I have reported many times:
The 'speaker volume' gets reset to zero over night.

I have 'prefer bluetooth' checked.

When I start in the morning without my bluetooth turned on, I hear NOTHING from the speaker until I turn up the volume.
When I head home at lunch time, WAZE remembers the volume from earlier and I don't need to turn it back up.

Sometimes, if I activate my bluetooth, the volume is the volume I have 'set' within WAZE.

I am not sure this problem is still here:
On bluetooth, when the volume was zero, if I used the volume control ON the blue tooth, it would use that volume for the current voice prompt and reset to zero for the next prompt.

Two more Speech/TTS issues I have discovered today:

1. Roundabout instructions for non-TTS voices are also broken. When approaching an nth turn roundabout the advance warnings (1/0.5/0.25 miles) give you 'In <distance> at the roundabout ...', but at the roundabout you correctly get 'At the roundabout take the nth exit'. I tested with 'English (UK) Carol' and 'English (UK) Natalie'.

2. TTS street names for no name roads now carry forward for multiple junctions (at least 6, maybe infinite). Previously this was not the case (just one junction?) but now this now matches the on screen instructions. The problem here is if you journey includes a lot of no name roads the instructions given will get a TTS name for the next named street which could be a completely different class of road and many miles away. This has provoked a debate among UK CMs that maybe now is time to change policy and where a street really has no name then we might name it something like 'Un-named Road' As we have a UK Wazer conference in a week we will discuss this further their with our senior editors.

I'm another one reporting no tts at all. I tried changing from Samantha to Tom but then I had no voice at all. will this be fixed soon?

sketch wrote:I agree with some other posters that the final instruction comes too late, far too late at freeway speeds.

My experience has been the opposite: freeway speeds announcements seem just fine but surface street announcements are way too early for the final instruction.

I didn't think it was a big problem during testing at home, but I drove about 1200 miles over the last couple days—in unfamiliar territory, they come too late. That instruction should be early enough that you can start braking at that moment for your turn, or get over a lane if you're in the wrong one.

The Waze release candidate had the same TTS scheme as the current version—except for the first instruction, which came just after the last turn instead of at up to 4.3 miles. I tested the Waze release candidate alongside a Garmin on the route. The Waze release candidate and the Garmin had essentially the same TTS scheme, with one fundamental difference: the Garmin's second and final instructions were more flexible. At city speeds, Garmin and Waze were pretty much the same. At freeway speeds, though, where Waze warns at ½ mile, Garmin warns at 1.1 mile; where Waze warns at about 400 feet, Garmin warns closer to 800 feet. I found the Garmin's instructions to be perfectly timed.

That's why the name is included in the final instruction—so you know where exactly to turn, based on the street sign and/or the map display. The instruction would be way too late to be useful if it actually came AT the street.

I'd like to have the "other sending options" links (email, text) back to the main ETA screen.
I never send ETA to other Wazers, but always by email.
The "other" link is small and nearly invisible, and it's enough free space for the buttons.

Other things I tried:
- Change username - not possible. Neither in app nor on website.
- Change Emailadress - not working in app, nor mobile chrome, nor OSX chrome. But worked after second time in Mobile safari.
- Change password - worked in mobile safari.

Nothing helped me out.

Very sad! It was such a good app. I'll try to go back to V3.7.8 if I can handle this. Found a tutorial.

So finally I installed the old app, then changed the nickname to the username and then installed the new app again. First everything looked good, 'till I entered my phone number. From that on I had the same problem with waze not verifying my account.
So I have to use the old app and hope for an update comming soon. I really would like to add friends without Facebook!

For its various bugs and problems, so far 3.8.0 seems more stable than the last version, at least for me. Less GPS craziness, for starters.
