Having a similar list for construction would be nice, and could produce the hard hat icon pop-up reports with the relevant details.
What if the road was tagged with (Closed)? Would the barricades show up then?

If it's a long term project that would be considered major, then the (Construction Zone) would be added. Anything shorter than a month would be left alone, unless, it was also a major thing.

Regardless, unless a road is completely closed for an extended period of time, hourly/daily lane closures and traffic detours would be handled by Waze in real time, along with the reports from drivers at that time.

When do we have streets closed for months when it is not for construction? Per guidelines we are only supposed to rename roads:
Wiki on Road closures wrote:Disconnect road segments - In general it is not recommended to disconnect road segments unless roads are permanently being disconnected. However, this method has been for longer term construction projects while waiting for the scheduled restrictions feature. This procedure also includes renaming the road to note the construction information that will appear on the client app helping local drivers see why they are not being routed through that area.

Sketch, I read through your changes and decided to revert all of them. :twisted:

:lol: Just kidding.

They look great. Also thanks for correcting the title case on the sections. Many people don't realize we are following the style guide for Wikipedia which says section names should not be title case, only sentence case.

Note that when you change a section name, there may be dependencies on that current name that get broken after you save. You can review all possible links to the page from the "What links here" in the left column of the page after you edit it. Good news is if you miss any links, you still end up on the page, but for large pages like this one, the user is dumped at the top. Not smooth, but hopefully the user recognizes to check the ToC in front of them. I am fixing some of they key ones now.

Blah

becomes

==Revised name==
{{Anchor|Old name}}
Actually this is a very good point that is commonly forgotten.

I think I will put in a Wiki Style Guide sticky linking to all the key Wikipedia guidelines we have been following and discussing in the individual threads to make it easy on everyone to find.

What is the benefit of appending "(Construction Zone)" to a road name? - its rarely visible at highway speeds. Does it alert drivers / modify routing? I added it to a stretch of Interstate along my daily commute here, though a response from a reporter questions it:

If the Construction Zone bit is correct then I guess close it. Seems dumb to add that to the name of a road.

On surface streets, you'll be seeing that name longer, and you'll get it in nav instructions when turning onto that area.

But, I dunno, I'm not all that crazy about the idea these days.
I'm making am assumption with no backing from looking at the app. There two distinct types of pop-up construction reports (the report>hazard>construction icons). One has the hazard logo, the other a construction hard hat. The later I've seen are not reported by users, rather by Waze or some official entity (DOT, etc ) IIRC. I assume that Waze now has the ability to remotely place these alerts, just as they can place closures. Perhaps long term construction projects, validated by editors could be paced on the client map using these road alerts without ever having to rename roads.

Just a thought, not sure if it's even practical to implement, but I'm pretty sure it's plausible. Even better would be if they allowed editors to place the alerts directly and specify start and end dates.

I know there is a closure doc that gets filled out when a road closure is know ahead of time. Those tasked would then place the needed restrictions.

With construction zones, maybe it could be possible to have R5 and/or R6/Champs be given a secondary sub-menu for road types that lists road conditions. This way only authorized editors can correctly place the required secondary tag (construction zone, closed).

The secondary menu, as mentioned above, would have the choices of Construction Zone, Closed, and ----. Or, it could be an access only option, like turn restrictions, where an editor can enter the road condition and dates if applicable.
When a road is closed on that list you see the road closure pop-up (icon with red white barricade) and red/white hash marks along the entire segment, just like you would I'd toy reported the closure in the app) the report says reported by: Waze.

Having a similar list for construction would be nice, and could produce the hard hat icon pop-up reports with the relevant details.

Only if it was added to the list. Bit that would be against the guidelines because "(closed)" should only be used on disconnected segments, and roads on the list are not to be disconnected.

sketch wrote:Well, (Closed) is now almost completely obviated as far as I'm concerned because we have a working closure feature (via the sheet) which is represented on the app map display. So that bit of the guidance can be removed as far as I'm concerned.

I have only used (Construction Zone) for long-term no-closure traffic pattern shifts. I don't think anything less permanent should be marked—if there's little evidence of construction besides barrels and equipment parked on the shoulder when no one is working, that's not enough for me. I think it's valuable when the warning is warranted 24/7, not when there /might/ be construction as you pass through.

I agree, but there should be some guidance for closures to notify someone (CM, RC) with access to the closure sheet.

My suggestion was primarily to have a sheet to use for long term projects with lane shifts etc.

What about construction sites which ate active for a number of hours daily causing closed lanes and make traffic hold ups, no shoulder access, etc? They could benefit from it too.
