Problem: Started a route to work which is 12 miles from home. Matt said that it cannot plot routes for distances greater than 1000 miles. Again work is 12 miles away

While Matt is the Village Idiot assigned to your area, you really shouldn't be listening to anything he says. It is true that Waze cannot plot routes for such distances. But we think he may have been trying to confuse you by uttering things that have a ring of truth to them. On the other hand, it is possible he knows a recursive path to your work, in which case your route could easily exceed the 1000 mile limit. Without more (any?) information it's rather difficult to say.
