Will make contact with Orit tomorrow and assuming she's back in Israel will ask for a fresh string upload so Dave and myself (and others) can go through it and see what works (locally and functionally).
Can I/us/we be party to the list too?

With Places you can add many sub-categories to a Place:area, including "Parking Lot"

suggestion: enlarge existing shopping/stadia building landmarks to encompass the adjacent parking, add a "Parking Lot" sub-class, move the Place:area destination marker to the entrance/parking lot road nearest the entrance. Delete the migrated/existing parking lot landmark. Or, vice-versa. Leave the existing ParkingLot Area, but add a sub-class for shopping center (sic) etc and expand it to cover the buildings.
With the areas though you can still add the shop and move the navigation marker to the same parking lot mode - depending on the size of the shop of course. This still gives the same look, and gives visible point of reference on the map.

As for points from what I read they don't show up on the map anyway, so should be added on the nearest navigation point.

This is where the guide is confusing, because it shows a big area point with a navigation point for a large mall, with each individual shop marked as a point inside the Shopping Center, now thats fine, but lets imagine there is a road running round the back of that shopping center, the navigation points for all the point places will all be wrong. So surely they should be on the same parking lot segment to ensure navigation works correctly.

Now it gets more awkward from here, lets say I set up a navigation point in a car park which has the basic simple parking lot road in there. Fine, no problem. But then Mr New L1 editor comes in and maps the parking lot to its full extent. depending on the complexity of the parking lot, you might end up with 15 different navigation instructions navigating around several one way parking segments based on the original parking lot layout.

So do we either start locking parking lots where they have defined navigation points, map them fully allowing us to set navigation points based on the full parking lot layouts, or ensure all points are as close to the entrance to the parking lot as possible. Or another option I can't think of at the moment???

Appreciate lots of this will be discussed, and some of it probably already has.

Yes parking lots should (under current guide lines) have minimal roads, hence the question of could adding parking lots with specific points could be severely altered by such changes. Yes this was also true before, but then we had little to no control over the navigation point before then.

To answer your last question, from what I can tell (not the official view) is I believe waze are trying to stear to towards a more general use sat nav with many features.

Definitely depends on circumstances, if there are multiple car parks all with the same entrance, then surely main the entrance would be appropriate. It's been about 15 years since I went to Cribbs though so I don't know that one recently.

Certainly with others such as lakeside and Bluewater, there are parking lots on different sides, each with their own entrance. So which one you go to is often dependant on knowledge, available spaces and/or which shop you intend to go to - if visiting a specific store.

Even getting navigated to a car park or the area is better than what could happen before, such as being navigated to some random service road round the back.

But aren't the parking lots also used to suppress map problems and alleys etc?

I think they both are. You won't get any traffic reports on a plr. But you won't get any MPs or the like at all in the lots. Although I could also be wrong

From my understanding, Place places don't show up in the client, and are only searchable and navigable to. So Should be on the road where you want to be navigated to.

Area places show up on the client as per usual.
