Motorway Carriageway Naming Convention - Ireland

Post by arthurohara
Could I please refer to the Ireland Wiki page - http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Ireland entitled, Ireland, Complete Guide to Waze in Ireland (Under Development).

Then to the page titled "Motorway Carriageway Naming Convention" (http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/How_ ... Ireland%29)

Quote: "Whenever possible, on split roads, name carriageways with the direction of travel. Insert the direction of travel at the end of the road name; e.g.,
M1 N
M50 S

This makes traffic and incident reports much more useful and helps with navigation.
"

My questions:-

1. should the directional letter, say N or S as mentioned above be encased within () brackets, as M1 (N) or M50 (S)?

2. should there be a space between the abbreviated route name and directional letter?

Note.
(Could I also respectfully suggest to Waze Webmasters - in utilising PHP try keeping all elements of the finger trail in page URL's/addresses to lowercase letters. I.E. instance above URL ...index.php/Ireland may be better served as ...index.php/ireland. Each figure_letter-word in subset of the URL should be linked by underscore _ or dash - notwithstanding sub directories of course. Will help to lessen linking, search and other server issues! In other words, Enforce Lower Case URLs.).

Will more experienced Waze members please guide me as to whether or not this NB should be sent separately to the Waze Support email address or just left here on the forum for them to pick up on?

Hi Arthur,

I've named most of them and have tried to follow the convention <road name in uppercase><space><direction in uppercase>, except of course where I forgot. I tend to prefer less screen clutter and I don't think the brackets add anything!

The urls obviously match the file names (%$£"ing Unix or lovely logical Unix - depending on your viewpoint) and these are taken from the topic heading in the Wiki - if you edit the Wiki and add a page, it will follow your capitalisation (as we're Irish maybe we could go Joycean and disregard all grammer and punctuation). I wish you luck with getting the Wiki editor changed! and I don't think they'll pick the request up from the post.

Regards
LL

I had a look today and its not very well observed - I sorted the M1, M2, M3, M4 and M50.
