Actually this was requested as a feature by hundreds of people who complained frequently on the forums about not being alerted of such changes in the Alerts only mode, Waze must have gotten tired of it because it is now a feature.

I guess making everyone happy is an impossible task :?

I find Waze doesn't always know best, especially in California Bay Area traffic. Often, one has to improvise.
When that's the case, driving the suggestion a few times will teach Waze that it is less effective and it will stop suggesting it after a while. Never doing it doesn't let Waze learn to know your option is better.

In some cases from my personal experiences, the other route was actually faster, but the first few times are usually super annoying because it's not following your usual habits, and more often than not as humans we hate that, but when you start getting used to it, it becomes easier to want to take those roads. In fact a few of those previously uncomprehensible suggestions have now become my usual route over previous ones.

...Waze never seems to remember that I take it, no matter how many times I take it, and that it saves me a good 10 minutes on my trip home.
I'll just add that it doesn't matter how many times you take a road, Waze doesn't actually learn your favorite/preferred routes, it only learns about your favorite/usual destinations to be able to suggest them to you when the app starts. It will still always calculate the best way to get there based on historical data for each street based on day of the week and time of day and real-time data if people using Waze have been driving on those segments recently, which specific roads you have been usually taking is not taken into account to give you a suggestion for the fastest route.

As not to have too many area-specific issues discussed in this general iOS feedback thread, I feel that all the rest should maybe be talked about with Californian editors who may be able to help you more effectively regarding your other problems, as they could edit the map in areas you drive through to perhaps improve Waze route suggestions there.

jck667 wrote:+1, what spectrumfox said. Waze now interrupts the radio/CD/podcast often, so having an option to disable the recalculate sound would be very much appreciated. (I would still like to be alerted for police / accidents / road kill / etc as this is a powerful feature of the app.) Thanks in advance. :)
I don't know why I didn't realize or suggest this sooner but did you know that you can use Waze without turning on navigation ??

If you don't want to follow the Waze suggested route, simply leave navigation OFF.
You can stop receiving directions at any time while in navigation mode:
  1. Tap the ETA bar at the bottom of the screen: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/c74in ... OlZfw=w240
  2. Tap Stop :https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/kDqjw ... AUr7wh=h30
You will still get all important audio alerts when you approach them on your route, but it will no longer play a sound when re-calculating as you won't be using the nav feature.

I'd like more granularity in my alert options and do not want my audio playback through my phone disturbed by the beeps for every re-route. I do want the alerts for traffic, police and so on, so I do need to program in my final destination, but I really don't want to "add a stop" for every intermediate stop and route change I make along the way.
You don't have to. Waze will alert you, even if you don't have turn-by-turn navigation active.
@Pizuz : We had the same problem with the previous thread.. People really don't read any solutions we suggest to them and focus only on adding up the complaints. :?
Thanks for helping out ;)

@kunzorama : Pizuz is right and please read/acknowledge my post only 2 posts above your own.

spectrumfox wrote:This is a feedback thread and we are providing useful and productive feedback to you. There's a bunch of us here, some of us long time Waze users, telling you guys that the solutions you are providing don't mesh with our usage of the app. Not all feedback you will receive will be positive, that doesn't mean we're complaining either.
I know some of you are, but I was refering to someone who hadn't aknowledged the solution that was proposed at all and just continued the same argumentation ignoring what was said.
Which is not the same as when people aknowledge it - and then - say the solution is not right for them.
Let's all appreciate and respect the time and effort some people put in these forums. When someone reads your feedback and reacts on it, take the time to read at least the last two posts with possible suggestions. It goes both ways as we're all Waze users and nobody is a paid employee.
spectrumfox wrote:There should be no reason we need to gimp the app by keeping navigation off, thereby missing out on incredibly useful ETA data. Nor should we be pressured to take the exact route Waze suggests if there is a better one available that Waze isn't picking up on at the time.
Nobody is pressuring to take the route Waze first suggests, that's why you can easily switch using the alternate routes option. If your route is not there, I still don't see why people insist on using navigation, because the ETA displayed will not be correct since it will be the ETA for the Waze route, while you already know you won't be following it. Making any displayed ETA irrelevant to where you plan on driving since any road alerts, traffic, events etc.. will be calculated for a different itinerary.

So to summarize it seems people would agree that:
In Alert-Only mode, Waze should not play a sound if you deviate from the Waze suggested route (willingly or by mistake, the app cannot know that anyway). But it should play a sound if, due to an accident for example, Waze has found a new and better route that you should start following to go around the incident. Correct?

As it is explained in the Waze help: Automatic destination suggestions (EDIT: and as nzahn1 said. I noticed the post after making this one sorry)

This setting can be turned on/off on your dashboard : https://www.waze.com/dashboard (Checkbox to the right)

CrashInator wrote:Did a test when I got home, she did not receive any notification that I sent her the second eta either
I use this function a lot with friends and family. I feel it's a lot safer because it renders useless having to call or text while driving to let them know where you are or if you're in traffic, and if they want to know they can just look and not bother you.

Here is how I would categorize people I could want to send the ETA to.

1. People that have Waze and that I have added as friends on Waze (and they approved the friendship)
2. People that have Waze but that I am not friends with on Waze
3. People that do no have Waze.

For categories number 2 and 3 I avoid using the app's internal ETA sharing. Instead when I am asked to choose who to send the ETA to, from the list, I click on "more" which lets me share a web link via sms, whatsapp, e-mail, facebook, twitter or just the "copy" function that I can then paste anywhere I want. Sending that link to people let's them see my ETA easily on the web without needing the Waze app on their phone. For me it worked well about 95% of the time and they rarely miss it because they are more used to the usual sms/whatsapp or whatever familiar system you send them the link to.

For people in category 1, those are the only ones I share my ETA with directly by selecting them in the app's list and hitting "Share". This normally triggers a notification from Waze on their phone letting them know I shared an ETA and what it is, and also sends another notification just 5 minutes before my arrival.

Careful though, because for anyone who turned off Waze's ability to use the phone's notification system in their settings that would not work as they would not see/hear any notification. But the fact that you did share your ETA should still go in their app's inbox on their account. So remind them to either allow Waze to notify them with sounds for it to work, and if they missed it, tell them to check their inbox on the app to see if they really "didn't get anything".

Though it's supposed to be easier, this type of ETA sharing has been the least effective one for me because at least 1 out of 4 times when I arrive people say they missed or didn't see/hear the notification from Waze, but when they look it was actually there.

crispy78 wrote:I used to have the option to select a roadside when reporting traffic, obstacles or police checks. Can someone help me to find a way to report things happening on the opposite side of the road?
Here are the main facts:

This was removed in version 4.0 (currently only on iOS)

Several people asked already:
'Other side' for traffic reports
Cannot report a traffic jam on other side with new Version.
Why can't I tag objects in the other lane?
opposite side reporting?

There was also a lot of talk about it in the iOS v4.0 Feedback Thread, in fact you had asked the same question on page 16 of that thread. I've also posted there to explain one of the probable reasons why it was removed.

TIP : Here is a helpful note on how to use search on the forums in order to find already existing topics or posts.
