I never used to get this (I have the same phone, IOS and so on) but now I increasingly do.

Some journeys it doesn't happen at all, others I'm plagued by it.

Sometimes just leaving it alone is all I have to do and it fixes itself. Other times powering off the phone and on again kind of helps for a while.

I also quite often lose GPS lock when I turn a corner. This is when the view will change to different satellites, I assume.

I just assumed that it's because the GPS in the iPhone 3GS is a bit rubbish, and my phone is getting old.

I think comparing with Google maps can be a bit misleading because that also uses WiFi and 3GS signals, whereas I don't know if Waze does that?

Follow-up: I'm pretty sure it's dodgy hardware on my iPhone because:

a) Today I went into Google maps and that also was stuck in the same (wrong) location.

b) I've just remembered that it gets worse, the hotter the phone is.

You can of course use an external Bluetooth GPS receiver. This sounds inconvenient, but presumably you can leave it permanently in your car and powered on, and just continue to use the smartphone as usual, once it's configured to use the Bluetooth GPS (how on earth you do that I have no idea).

I have the iPhone 6, latest iOS, and current Waze (ie no updates to install). Recently the GPS stopped working. Sometimes on a 30 minute drive it never works, sometimes it works after 15 mins or so. I can use the iPhone's native Nav program so I know there's nothing inherently wrong with the phone. Location Services for Waze are turned on.

WAZE, please fix this!! I have now wiped my iPhone, am re-installing apps, and still WAZE won't detect GPS. Apple Nav program works.

The Waze app advice is about your phone settings. When I had iPhones, I had to get Apple to replace them twice to get decent GPS accuracy.

It's talking about the phone settings, not the settings within Waze

I’ve encountered a strange problem with GPS which first appears about two months ago. I’m using Waze on Samsung Galaxy S21 + Android Auto + AA Wireless. During driving GPS position now randomly stucks however Waze continues working normally, I can move map, zoom etc., but after pressing “center” it returns to the same stucked place. If I switch to Google Maps then at very first moment it appears at the same “stucked” position but then immediately finds correct coordinates and follows them normally. If I switch back to Waze, it returns to these previous “stucked” coordinates. If I continue to use Waze it can randomly finds new coordinates and stuck again later. Several updates was released for Waze and Android Auto but problem still persists. I’m using this combination of hardware almost one year, everything works fine until now. It confuses me that this only happens on Waze, Google Maps works normally, however they somehow share those stucked coordinates when switching between them. I’ve tried reboot phone, change Location permission for Waze to “Allow all the time”, disable Location permission for Android Auto – nothing helps.

Hey there! I totally get your frustration with the GPS issue. I had a similar problem before. It seems like the recent update might be causing compatibility issues. Try resetting your network settings; it often helps. Check out this guide for step-by-step instructions. Hope it works for you! By the way, for more tech tips and solutions, you might want to explore Mobitrix. They cover various tech-related topics that could be super helpful. Good luck!

Same problem Here with OnePlus 6.
GPS locking is very slow or doesn't happen at all, down here in Trinidad.

It's not a phone permission issue, I've been using Waze for years so know what needs to be on/off. I did a factory reset recently and so this is a fresh install.

Something has changed that is causing GPS not to acquire location.
