At the end of Map Raid! West Virginia we conducted an Exit Interview survey to see what items we excelled at and what areas we could improve on for the next raid.

Out of 327 raiders that signed up for the raid we had 127 raiders complete the survey. THANK YOU!!!

Some of the questions asked included rating the overall raid experience, length, responsiveness of leadership, goals, wiki, use of GHO including the main chat room, group size as well as group leadership. We also asked an open ended question for anyone that deserved recognition as well as comments as to what the raider, if they had a chance to run a raid, would do differently.

Overall Rating of the raid was very good, we had 89 raiders rate the raid a four, and five. And only seven raiders rate a one or two.

We asked the raiders to rate the “Goals of the MapRaid”. Was there enough to do? Enough to keep them busy?
77.9% (99) of survey responses rated us a four or five giving us good information that we had good goals. Some opportunities that came out of the comments were that there was too much to do. That some raiders felt that they were never able to leave the first goal of basemap. There were also some concerning comments that a couple raiders didn't know that there were goals. (How does this happen??)

Length of the raid received very good feedback. 60.6% (77) of raiders that took the exit survey said that the raid was “Just Right”. 33.9% (43) felt that it was too short.

Comments we received on length of raid were mixed, many felt that there was “too much basemap and too little time”. We also received many comments praising us for leaving the raid area open for an extra week so people could “finish their work”. An overarching sentiment is that there is “still plenty of work to do”.

We then asked about responsiveness to issues, locks, or questions. 85.9% (109) of raiders that took the survey rated either a four or five. Great comments were received mentioning group leaders and overall higher rank editors that helped with up and down locks and overall “mentoring” within the groups.

We asked to rate the effectiveness of the Group Leadership. An amazing 85.1% (108) of raiders rated the group leadership a four or five. We also received great compliments for the leaders. And one scolding JasonN899 for using @all too often :). It was concerning to see that multiple raiders either didn’t interact or didn’t even know there were group leaders. Seeing as we had 3 assigned to every group.

Looking at the raid wiki 84.2% (107) of raiders rated us a four or five, giving us good compliments on the wiki.

Within the comments we received good information. Compliments on the detail and information, but we received some “blow back” on changes to the guidance/wiki during the middle of the raid. For example the addition and clarification of ALT name guidance for city names.

We then asked the million dollar question, rating of Google Hangouts. We received mixed reviews, as you can see in the chart below. We received many comments regarding the use of Slack, and many people that had never used GHO before. Also some good information regarding the “missing of announcements” in the GHO’s. Meaning we or the group leaders announced something and it was missed by people that either didn't scroll back or were not on when it was announced.

For the 2nd half of the GHO question, we asked how the raiders liked being “joined together” in a Main Chat as soon as they signed up. (before the raid) 77.2% said that they liked being in the main chat and liked talking to everyone and getting to know the other raiders. But 22.8% felt that it was “unnecessary” due to the amount of “off topic” chatter that was “clogging up the chat”.

The raiders loved the group size. 81.1% (103) of raiders said that the group size was “just right”.

A lot thought that 60+ people would be too crazy or too packed, but turned out that it worked at well.

For those that would like to peruse the whole survey, including all graphs and notes, it can be found in this document.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback and input. We always strive to improve and this was a great tool to get everyone's thoughts.
