Agree, not worth it anymore this way.

Mine is similar but not quite the same (after any command it just says "wait") but the end result is the same, voice commands do not work. Sigh.
This problem has been around, from what Google reports, since 2013. Time to stop listing voice commands as a feature, guys, out at least remove the microphone until you get it working.
Spending time while driving ooking at the phone trying to see if it's doing anything is the opposite of voice control.

Same for me. No linkage for Google Assistant with Waze on Android 13:

Not working on my Waze app on Android.
Google Assistant seems only be linked with Google Map.

Also Waze is said to be equipped with an own assistant. It triggers on "Ok Waze" but has to be activated in the settings.
In my Waze (Release 4.98) this setting is not present and so is not the functionality.

Android version: 13

Maybe it works only on English versions?

My Phone is configured for language/country german/Germany

More annoyingly for me, waze pauses the music for the beep of the voice prompt, but then allows it to play whilst it wants me to talk to is useless for me.

I now know I should try to use my bluetooth headset with voice commands; I haven't yet. (Turning my radio off in the car, which should have been a "duh" kind of thing, helped immensely.)

Is there a better way to start voice recognition? The settings either show "wave twice or three finger tap," "wave once or three finger tap," and "three finger tap." I had to set it to the finger tap only because waving sometimes causes a "how can I help you?" from the app when I didn't want to send a voice command, and waving doesn't seem to work when I want it to. Grabbing my phone from the center console and tapping it with three fingers simultaneously doesn't seem very safe to me when traveling at highway speed. Plus I'm fairly certain it's against the law in my state.

Does "wave" mean "wave the phone" or "wave your hand in front of the phone?"

iPhone 3GS with iOS6, here. Upgrade to iOS7 was never presented to me, probably because the phone is going on 4 years old now.

Thanks.

My Bluetooth headset apparently will only let you use it if you're making a call. I can't really afford to get another at this point so it will have to wait. Voice control seems to work OK for me if I have the radio off.

Can anyone tell me 1. How to get that hands-free voice-command dialogue to come up? I seem to randomly cause it to happen, but I'm not sure how to intentionally do it.

Also, if I glance my hand in front of the front camera, it seems to blank the screen in waze. This is particularly irritating given where my phone sits when I drive. Any way to turn this off? Why is this even a feature?

Thanks!

For voice activation, please see the help article here:

If you have an iPhone like I do it's just the phone's proximity sensor which turns the screen dark if it detects something against the screen, like during a phonecall. As far as I know there is no way to turn that off.

It isn't just this, because I can put my hand in front of my phone, or put my phone to my ear or put my phone face down and the screen does not blank on other apps or just on the normal home page. It does when you're in a phone call, but that must be app-specific. This suggests to me that Waze has explicitly selected this option, or at very least has not opted out of it. I don't have issues with any other apps I regularly use except waze, if my hand blocks the camera while trying to tap the screen, it blanks on me and it's really bothersome.
