Closure: Various Cork City centre roads

Post by DiarmuidCogan
Various road closures are in place in Cork City to facilitate works. Looks like they've actually been closed for a fortnight and will be closed for another week or two.

OK - I've added closures to all the segments in your permalinks that expire at midnight on August 7. The information page was a bit vague ("from the 17th of July for approximately 3 weeks"), and this date would be three weeks and one day after July 17.

If you get any more specific information, please let me know. It would be handiest if you find out before the closures I've added expires, since then I can just modify them instead of having to create new closures.

The closures will also automatically clear if somebody running Waze drives along one of the closed streets. Do you think this is correct? The information page said that access would be maintained for residents, so if any of them are Waze users, that'll clear the closures. I can turn off automatic closure clearing if you think that would be better?

But are they closed to traffic as well? If traffic is still allowed through, then the closures will automatically vanish as soon as a Waze user drives through them (although Waze users won't be *routed* through them as long as the closure is in place).

OK - it's probably unlikely, but I've turned on the closure setting to ignore traffic, so they won't automatically reopen if (for example) a Waze-using resident happens to drive down one of those streets.

Thanks, David. Looking at Cork City's other closure page (why do they have two?) they seem to expect that works should be completed by then. DrawbridgeSt/Perry St are full closure; Devonshire St W & Millerd St are restricted parking as they're doing the footpaths so they should be safe enough.
