why are my edits being reversed?

Post by AlvaTruong
Hi everyone-

At 40.023458, -75.240969 there is a service road leading to the Belmont Hills Swimming Pool (122 Marywatersford Rd, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004, USA).

The service road did not appear in Waze. I used the Map Editor to add the service road. There is a roundabout (AKA traffic circle without lights) in the middle of the service road, and I included that when I added the road.

Since I added that road to Waze, other editors have repeatedly deleted the roundabout, even though it faithfully represents reality on the ground. Why are they doing this? Is anyone able to review the edit history and offer some insight into why they would undo my work and change the map in a way that does not reflect reality.

Thanks for any insights you are able to offer.

Hello AlvaTruong and welcome to the Waze Map Editing community!

Now that you have logged into this forum for the first time, other editors have a way to contact you. And you have a way to contact them. Please check your personal messages inbox on this forum in case another editor reaches out to you. You can also send personal messages to other users.

The PA editing community is a great group with a number of experienced editors who would be willing to work with you to come up with a good way to make that part of the map work well for wazers. If you decide to do more editing, then you'll want to be connected to experienced editors who can help you to quickly learn how to really make the map work for Wazers.
You can learn more about editors in Pennsylvania by reading our Wiki Page:
https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Pennsylvania

We can't see what was deleted, but we can see the history of any road segments you might have altered.

Here's what I see. You say you were working on this parking lot road at the Belmont Hills Pool.

I don't see your username in the history of the segment. When I look at your personal editing history, I don't see any saved edits: https://www.waze.com/user/editor/AlvaTruong
After you made the edits, did you use the "save" icon in the Waze Map Editor (WME) to save your changes? Or did you do this editing using a different login name?

To me, it looks like the road splits to go around a tree, leaving a teardrop-shaped island in the middle, or possibly a side loop for a small number of parking spaces near Mary Waters Ford Rd.
With the goal of giving easy-to-understand driving directions to people going in and out of the parking lot. I prefer the simplest of the solutions that give the best driving directions.

If that's correct (the road just divides around the tree), then here's my solution: just treat it like a parking lot road with a tree in the middle. People can figure out how to get around the tree just the same as they figure out how to get around other cars in a parking lot. This is the simplest, so I prefer it:

Another possible approach adds a side "loop". I think it is less usable (you could get extra turn instructions you don't really need), and it is less simple, so I don't like it as much:

Thanks for your help with the map!
