I'm late to the discussion. We're working on updating all the existing Post Offices in VT and making sure the other 66% non-mapped locations get on the map.

I've read through these pages:
viewtopic.php?f=1636&t=239786
viewtopic.php?f=1636&t=240544

Please let me know if there's a better place to bring this up.

The USA Post Office Wazeopedia page:
https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Places/Post_Office

Guidance suggests that names include [Station] ... but nowhere does it say where Station is derived from. I would like to get some clarification.

Substitute [Station] with the official name of the station from USPS.

In some USPS web pages the station will include the state abbreviation, e.g., Springfield MA. In other places the state is omitted: just Springfield.

In looking at existing Waze Post Office places ... some people add the state abbreviation to the station name (make it part of the station name) and others do not. Inconsistent!

From a database perspective ... if I were to look at all records with a name Post Office - Station ... it would be nice if the numerous Springfield locations had their state post-fixed:

Post Office - Springfield IL
Post Office - Springfield MA
Post Office - Springfield VT
(there are a lot of Springfield named places)

(I realize that Waze search takes into account some geo sense and may not display a placed named Post Office - Springfield IL when I'm in New England. Then again ...)

Looking for:
- clarification as to what [Station] should be
- should the Wazeopedia page be updated with that info?

Example: Springfield MA has a main post office (01101 01102 and maybe other zips) and many other outlying post offices. One is known as Forest Park Station (01108) but just Forest Park for short. No addresses use the city name of Forest Park, hence the name of the post office is Forest Park Station. Alas - that name is no longer on the building. There's also a city/village in IL named Forest Park ... IMO adding a state to the station name doesn't hurt as it may help make things less ambiguous.

Have some additional feedback to share from discussions on this in the NER Discord server's general channel (including from someone who works for the Post Office).

It was pointed out that the Post Office Wazeopedia page does list the best URL to get station names from:
https://tools.usps.com/find-location.htm?

The problem is it is embedded in this text:

Use the post office category on a place only if the place is listed by the USPS as "Post Office", "Village Post Office", or "Contract Postal Unit".

Once you have visited the underlined hyperlink above it is lost in the sentence - unless you happen to mouse over those words you won't see there's a link there.

May I suggest that the page be updated to explicitly mention the URL to obtain station names from?

Lastly - it would be nice to know whether the state abbreviation should or should not be post pended to the station name (and mention that in the Wazeopedia page as well).

Thanks all for the comments here and also in the USA Discord server. I think the Wazeopedia page updates are very helpful - thanks for making them so quickly.

While there hasn't been a lot of feedback - I'm on board with NOT including the state abbreviation after the station name. I'm one (of probably a number of people) who have been adding the state. Could we also add a note to the Wazeopedia page asking editors to not include the state? I think it would help with consistency and remove ambiguity. Thanks!

I occasionally see post offices in Waze including the zip code, using the format "Post Office - 12345 Anytown"

Do we see any benefit to including the zip code?
