Do route duration and traffic levels account for rest stops

Post by 50d1000de6c24ed1a72cd8438b4d11c5
We have a 10 hour journey ahead of us and obviously expect to stop every couple of hours for fuel, refreshments etc. but do not know if the route planner takes this into account. It would affect the predicted traffic and trip duration (in)directly.

I expect this has been asked before but had trouble with the search - the result pages are less than convincing and I suspect bugs. Never mind but feel free to post a link to an earlier answer. Thanks!

Hi,

The forum search has indeed been a bit broken for a while. The ETA the App gives does not estimate the time of arrival with included stops/breaks. You need to estimate how many stops you'll make and how long they might last in total, then use that amount of time to determine how earlier you should actually start driving to be there on time.

Example: You know it will take 10h, the GPS tells you that you'd need to leave around noon to be at your destination on time if you drive non-stop, but you know you might stop for a total of 1h30 on the way for food, gas etc.. then substract those 1h30 from the suggested departure time and leave at 10h30 instead of noon.

Actually you can do this:

For example, A is start point, B and C your rest points and D is your destination and need to arrive at 10 PM.

1. Search for your last rest stop(C)
2. On next screen (where road is previsualized) tap on 3 dots icon and select "Set as start point"
3. Now search for your destination (D)
4. Tap on "Go later" button, set date and time desired for arrive to your destination and save

Imagine you'll take 2 hours of rest on C and need to start from C to D at 8 PM to arrive at 10 PM according Waze. This means you need to arrive at C at 6 PM (8 PM minus 2 hours).

6. Now, search for B and repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 set as desired arrival time, 8 PM.
7. Finally, don't need to search for your start point because I guess is your home or wherever you will be programming the trip (but you can search for it if want to do), just search for point B and repeat step 4.

You can do that no matter how many rest points are but take care about Waze Planned Drives ETA, because is based on historical statitics so this method is far to be perfect; one trip between two points slower than calculated and all this work will be useless.

And don't forget to set your GPS to always enabled.
