NER "Map sweep of the week"

Post by bobc455
Hi all!

For the past couple of weeks, we've been trying a "map sweep of the week" to focus in on certain areas of the map. So far this has been well received, so I will be posting a note in the Discord "General" channel and here as well.

The goals is to find areas of the map which we might not otherwise look at - and to learn. Sometimes the topics will be things we know, and sometimes they will be great learning opportunities. And hopefully fun too!

The more participation, the better! Please feel free to ask questions in the General or Learning Lab channels. Or shoot me a PM here in the forums.

In addition to a post in the General channel, I'll put the information here as well.

Nov 25 - Holiday Parades

For this week's Map Sweep of the Week, we are going to look for upcoming holiday parades and enter closures. This could include Thanksgiving Parades, Santa Parades, New Years Eve fireworks closures, or anything else along those lines.

Information about closures like this can be found in a variety of places, such as city/town websites, Facebook pages, and so on. However in many cases, follow-up with parade officials (or local police departments, etc) might be necessary. When chasing down information like this, it's a good idea to post a note in your state channel so other people don't start chasing the same officials.

When entering closures, consider whether an MTE ("Major Traffic Event") should also be entered (typically for larger events in cities). And if a really big event, consider asking the MTE to be pushed!

If you cannot enter a closure because of your rank, editing area, etc., please post in the relevant STATE channel requesting that another editor enter the closure. The closure request should include as much information as possible, hopefully including PL's to the parade route, time(s) of the closures, parade/event website, and any other local knowledge you might have. Also keep in mind that some parades will allow traffic to flow after the parade has fully passed in some areas, so staggered re-opening times might sometimes give best navigation instructions (if this information is available).

Some relevant WazeO links for closures:

For events where you enter RTC's, be sure to post a quick note in your state channel so people know when an event has been entered.

Feel free to ask any questions here in the Discord General or Learning Lab channels. Or shoot me a PM here in the forum. And have fun!
