Locked

Available Positions in Australia

Post by LostInMyMaps
The Australian community has some new and existing roles that we would like people to step-up for. We are asking active editors in Australia who are both experienced with the Waze products and brand to express their interest in the below fields.
  • Social Media Assistant / Manager
  • Australian Partner Coordinator
  • Localiser - Filled
  • New Member Coordinator- Filled
If you're interested, please complete this form. Don't overthink it. This is just a way for us to collect responses in an organised way. :)

Social Media Assistant / Manager
Currently, Waze Australia uses Facebook to announce new features and be an interface for users to connect, ask questions, and air complaints. That's pretty much it.

But we want to grow our social media presence to improve brand awareness, promote Waze services, spread the message of how Waze can help drivers, connect with new demographics, promote and recruit volunteer editors, grow the services offered on social media (allow users to report a road closed, intersection and road changes, and provide crisis assistance).

Currently, Waze leaves this up to the communities to organise and run themselves, providing some guidance and tips on social media in general, plus some graphics assets.

There are two roles here:
  • Social Media Manager - is a person who has a working experience / background in social media, advertising, or brand management + time to spare in their life for the role. This role would lead the social media strategy development.
  • Social Media Assistant - someone with a keen interest in the same, good with language, though perhaps with less time to spare.
These are also long term roles.

Australian Partner Coordinator
Waze Australia is currently looking for a Partner Coordinator!

The Connected Citizens Program (CCP) is proof that we already have the answers to some of today's mobility challenges. The Waze map strengthens with every data point contributed across our vast community of everyday drivers and volunteer map editors. Via the CCP, hundreds of international cities, departments of transportation and first responders have built meaningful relationships and regularly share knowledge to identify creative solutions. From road management to measurable congestion reduction, these are the initiatives building cities of tomorrow.

The "Partnerships Coordinator" role aims to clarify and organise the relationship and knowledge sharing between editors and partners in a specific city, region or country. The coordinator will handle general communication by the editors community, mentoring etc, playing a critical role in the city's transportation flow.

Localiser- Filled
Have you ever opened a piece of software that was in another language? What was your first impression - one trust?
Wikipedia wrote:Language localisation is the process of adapting a product's translation to a specific country or region.

Localising products allows us to:
  • Be more appealing to users
  • Customise the user experience
  • Incorporate our culture and mannerisms
  • Strengthen connections with users.

The Waze Map Editor and Waze app products are in the process of being localised to the "English (Australia)" language. Localising the Waze products give us that warm fuzzy feeling deep down that everything is going to be alright. It allows us to change "gas stations" to "petrol stations" and "lay-bys" to "rest areas". Seeing terms like "color" or "center" adds to the cultural disconnect.

We are looking for a localiser or two to work as a part of a small team to review the language used in the Waze products and make them familiar to Australian users. Localisations in production right now include the Waze Map Editor and Waze Profile projects. We are working on the Waze app, and plan to later add an Australian voice (or two) to the Waze app.

It is meticulous work, requiring assessment of context and the developer's intentions. But there are opportunities to improve the usability of the products, such as clarifying error messages, etc. Software used is Transifex and Google Sheets. You need to work with the Localisation Coordinator and follow the country "style guide" for language. Obviously, written English skills and understanding of Australian phraseology helps.

The localisation project is long-term and tedious, and thus, we need someone who can work in the role for the long term.

New Member Coordinator- Filled
The Waze Australia community is a small group of amazing individuals, without a doubt. But more is merrier!

Editing the map in Waze is hard. There are so many rules. Onboarding is overwhelming. Those pesky high-ranking editors keep deleting your walking trails that took you hours to add. People keep sending you links to long wiki pages. Is there any wonder people don't stick around?

We are looking for a new member coordinator who can:
  • Review and develop strategies to recruit and retain new map editors
  • Examine the whole process from joining Waze to becoming a senior editor
  • Develop resources to assist new members
  • Be a friendly face and advocate on behalf of new editors
  • Reach out to new editors and refer them to mentors to support their growth.

You're gonna need to be a people person, obviously. :)
