Important translation guideline

Post by Ottolenga
Dear Localization community,

Since we have encountered a few cases lately where community translations were altered to fit local Community rules, we would like to clarify an important translation guideline:

Please refrain from altering an original translation's meaning in order to fit local community rules.

As much as we value community input towards in-context localization to avoid “literal” mistranslations, the overall original string meaning must be respected.

Please be considerate that other countries and other communities might use the same language while not necessarily following your local community rules and guidelines.

It is also a very important guideline to follow for legal and policy reasons, as translations should not be used to change a feature's functionality.

Thank you for your continued collaboration,

Tamar, on behalf of the Waze Localization Community Team

Hi,
sounds reasonable of course.
Can you give an example what you understand by altering the meaning in order to fit local community rules?

thanks
