Face-To-Face Meetup Pilots are on the Way!

Post by hila-beta
Dear Community Members,

We’d like to thank you for continuing to engage with the Waze Community during the almost two years since the COVID pandemic began. Your participation in virtual events and here on the Waze Forums has meant the world to us while we try to figure out how to keep connected in this “new normal”.

It is no secret that the Waze communities have wished to return to face-to-face meetings for quite a while! So, in order to test a return to the real new world, while acknowledging the reality that the COVID-19 pandemic is still among us, we are happy to announce a pilot to be held in November 2021 that will include three small LOCAL FACE-TO-FACE MEETUPS!

Pilot Info:
  • There will be three pilots in November to test this new model:
    • Connecticut, USA (NOR + NER)
    • Paris, France
    • Germany (Exact location - TBD)
  • The Meetups will allow for limited face-to-face participation, and will be open to join virtually for those who can’t be there physically and are part of that local community.
  • Waze staff will connect remotely to watch the Meetup and present.
  • We will take all the necessary steps and precautions to follow the local COVID restrictions of each country where these pilots are taking place, and take care of all necessary measures to help community members attend safely.
The success of these pilot events is critical to our goal of planning face-to-face Meetups in 2022. With that being said, however, we can’t commit to any plans while the pandemic is still ongoing. We’ll do our best to accommodate events where and when it is possible, based on Google’s policy and the local COVID regulations. This may require some format changes from what we've done in the past, so please be flexible and patient with us while we adapt to the current situation.

** If you’re part of the relevant communities for this pilot:
Later today we will post registration information for each of these Meetups in the Waze Forum. Please keep an eye out for it, and make sure to register ASAP as we need to limit the number of participants in accordance with local regulations.

For any questions you are welcome to contact Erez (erezn@google.com) or your Community Manager.

Hoping to share more exciting and optimistic news like this with you in the beginning of 2022!

Thanks and stay safe,
Hila, on behalf of the Waze Communities Team

Hey Peter,

We will test many things in this pilot for the first time, according to the "new normal" that the pandemic forced us to deal with.

As you all know, we stopped all in-person meetups when COVID started and we are now testing a new format of meetups, which includes limited face-to-face participation and an option to join virtually for those who can’t be there physically and are part of that local community.

The main test will be dealing with many logistics challenges that are new to us and learning how to organize an event according to the local COVID regulations.
The success of these pilot events is critical to our goal of planning face-to-face Meetups in 2022.

Best,
Hila
