Update from Waze:
Waze wrote:We are reading all of your feedback, and deeply understand your frustrations and concerns. Please let us first reiterate how important you are to us and Waze. We are so grateful for everything that you do, and sincerely apologize for this issue.

We truthfully did not have advanced notice of this required maintenance work. It came as a surprise to us too, and we absolutely agree that not being able to give you a proper heads up (as we have previously) is not acceptable. This started out as an unexpected and unscheduled minor disruption to service, which then uncovered issues that were not anticipated and outside of our control that have resulted in the need for more down-time. We are planning to add a notice in the WME Tile Build popup so that all editors are kept informed of the situation.

Since we last posted, we have learned that our earlier belief that it will take one month for this maintenance to complete may have been an overestimation. We are optimistic that in reality it will be shorter, but still don’t want to set any false expectations. Either way, we will take advantage of this time to make improvements so that the service is enhanced once back.

Further update [viewtopic.php?p=2207217#p2207217]
Waze wrote:The development team worked over the weekend on the tile builder service, assigning it the highest priority.

In the upcoming days, we will work on manually building tiles in ROW and NA, subject to positive results from the IL build. Releases are expected to be in the following order: IL, ROW and then NA. We will make sure to keep you posted and update you when the map is released in each environment.

As mentioned in the announcements channel, our edits will not be hitting the map for quite a while. When responding to UR's, it's fine to be very vague with any discussion of when the update will hit the map. Something like "These changes will be implemented during the next map update cycle" will be totally sufficient in almost every case. A vague statement like that will make drivers aware that we've addressed their issue, and in the vast majority of cases drivers will be fine with that. In case of request for more information, it's acceptable to tell drivers that the update cycle in this case will be several weeks - but in general it's better to not address the timing of the update at all. Very few drivers understand how frequently the map gets updated anyhow and will probably not be shocked if it takes a few weeks.
I think the key thing here is that we DO continue responding to URs as promptly as we can, because there's a reasonable chance that they're reporting something that we can resolve now via the addition of a road closure or a place edit - every one of those URs we resolve ASAP is one more user happy we dealt with their problem quickly, and potentially many more users who'll benefit from that change without the need to raise a UR of their own.

And regardless of what the UR is about or what we might be able to do to resolve it straight away, it's also important that we don't get too relaxed and thinking that "oh well, if we can't edit the map data then there's nothing to do", and letting reports go unanswered so that, once we are back in the full swing of things, we're then faced with however many days/weeks worth of backlogged reports to deal with in addition to everything else.

It''d also be a good idea, if you find yourself responding to a UR which can't be fully dealt with just yet, to make a note of its location so that you can return to it and make the changes required once the tile update process resumes...

This situation isn't great, but we can all still do our bit to minimise the impact it has on us as editors and on Waze users in general.
